I am planning a weekend trip to the Canaan Valley/Seneca Rock area of WV. It will be my wife and I, and two other couples coming down from central PA. Does anyone here live/ride in this area or has anyone else ever rode in this area. I am looking for your advice on good routes, restuarants and sites to see.
are u taking your bikes they have some great cabins that have a garage attached down there look on line a timberlinereality .com
they are great people stayed there in 2007 twice hog state rally is there also
Theres a small motel overtop the country store on the main intersection at Seneca Rocks that was inexpensive and very clean. (at least a couple years ago it was) All the roads I have been on in W.V. were good riding.
Yoakums (I think that is the spelling) has log cabins with a hot tub that will easily sleep 3-4 couples. Located just north of Seneca Rock on 55. There are several motels in around Thomas, WV (north end of Canaan Valley. They are clean. The food is ok... nothing special. Running highway 32/33/or 55 are all great. Get off the NEW 55 and stay on the "old" 55. If you have a GPS a great route is take 55 off I-81. Stay on the old 55. There are a couple of diners in Wardensville (one has an Indian name) to eat at. When you get into Moorefield, cut across the old roads to get over to Thomas. You'll want to got a route East/north east. Once at Thomas, head south on 32 to 33. 33 is an awesome ride all the way to the interstate, or you can cut back north on 55, visit the novelty/gift shop at Smoke Hole Caverns, and putt on back north.
Unless you want to pay resort prices in the Canaan Valley, don't expect a lot out of the motels. Best food is to stay with the local diners.
There's some good ideas in the HDForum Road Trips section of This 'n' That and in the Northeast section of Regional Events, Rides and Road Reports. \\; Look for threads with West Virginia in the title.
I'm going out for the state rally july 16 w/ 6 or so other bikes. leaving from DE down through WV staying in Snowshoe then down to New River gorge &\\; back up to Morgantown (triple s dealership) &\\; home. looking forward to it!
