Do I just not get it?

To be honest, the original intent of this post was to politely tell the ********* to f-off without seeming like a total douche by everyone else. Maybe I was too polite, maybe it sounded like I need some counseling. Sometimes, I just feel like Michael Douglas in that movie Falling Down. I typically stick to the Dyna forum, because they all seem pretty cool over there and I know better than to venture into "general".
I'm relatively new here, but alot of things confuse me. It seems that there are alot of judgemental people here that seem to be extremely insecure with themselves. Before anyone gets confused, I am 36 years old, I don't live to ride or ride to live, I don't think I'm a cool badass biker, I don't understand what the big deal iswith chaps and fingerless gloves, blah, blah, blah....I frequent alot of car forums-I'm a hot rod fanatic- and people seem to be ALOT more willing to help each other on other forums. This is not my first Harley, but I don't consider myself to be a biker. I like to ride and currently have pneumonia because of it.
Someone please also explain to me why certain models are looked down upon over the others-namely Sportsters. I'm not clueless, so I've formed my own ideas about why people call it a girls bike. My first Harley was a badass Sportster and I wish I still had it. BTW, it was in American Iron Magazine with a 5 page feature. That is the bike that fits alot of people the best andalot of other Harley owners stare down their noses at them. I had several people that never rode ask me why I had a "girl's" bike. Why do alot of people with more expensive Harley's dismiss other's that do not live up to their class? Not that I want to fit in-just confused.
The only Harley gear that I own is a free t-shirt they gave me at the dealership when I bought the bike. I only wear it around the house, just like I refuse to wear a Corvette t-shirt,even though I loved the one I owned. Don't want to be categorized I guess....
Anyway, I suppose I am just venting. I know I will get hammered like flies on crap, but feel that some people here should really lighten up.
P.S. No, I do not wear chaps or fingerless gloves, but some of my old school biker friends do. Then again, they do what they want and don't try to live up to anyone elses image of what is right and wrong. I don't really expect any real answers because I haven't asked many legitimate questions, so I'llend with the fact that I am not trying to offend anyone or start a goofy forum war, but it just seems that some people should be a little less proud of themselves and a little more helpful to the world around them.
I am 49, a business owner who employs 37 people, and a family man. I'm not a biker, although I've been riding longer than 99% of the "bikers" here. I don't own any silly HD fashion, I don't need a big window decal on my truck, and I don't hang at the corner barwith guys who look like pirates when they ride.
I think you'll find that the person who responds to the "biker lifestyle" or the "poser", "fingerless" stuff has justhis "motorcycle" as his only personal claim to fame..
This person obviously struggles to be noticed, has little to no money and is desperately needing to fit in somewhere.. So, this person objects to anything that goes against the image he or she is trying to personally protect.
On these forume, I think the grown ups and the "bikers" are a 50-50- mix. Half seem to be people with positive things to ad while we wait out the cold weather. The other 50% feels like they need to become some living example of a Hell's Angel, while they are just asoft, timidperson needing a projected persona to make themselves feel good when they look into a mirror.
Maybe I'm a little tough here, but the Harley "want to be" tough guys in the world make it tough for the normal people.
"Opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one, some just stink more than others"
That said, some ppl think lacquer thinner smells good and others think farts smell good. What stinks to one, smells sweet to the next. As to Sportys, first and only "new" Harley bought at a dealer - 1976 XLCH. And IMO, it weren't no sissy bike. Was a li'l small for me at 6'6", but it would kick back like a mule. Check out schumacher's sig, it's great.
Now, go out and get on your electric start, front braked, horn, blinker, radio, thermometer, and speedometer equipped, over priced, can't work on it myself Geezerglide, and RIDE.

[sm=joke.gif](Pssst -don't tell anybody that Momma and I had an 01 Ultra, wouldn't want to tarnish the "bada$$ biker image thingy

) (Had to sell4 yrs ago - $$$$ thing)
