I think if you'd have had on some leather chaps, fingerless gloves,
and a nice warm corvette sweater you wouldn't be suffering from
pneumonia.

Think about it.

There are lot of great people here that will help you a ton. And there are more that a few smart a$$es, but it mostly done in fun. I have a Fatboy and love it, but I do miss my sporster. imo the sporster is the most fun harley to drive. Just not built for long trips.
I didn't know Harley made a Sporster. LOL

I have a sportster, an 883 even. I will have my 67 year old dad riding it this spring, or earlier, cause he is getting too weak to use a larger bike. He thinks the sporty is heavy now, and he used to be a bad *** big stout ****. I can also pump that baby up to where it'll blow alot of other bikes off the road, if I want to, and only insure it as an 883 That's a good savings on insurance.
I don't wear fingerless gloves, but I agree with the point that it makes picking your nose easier, and anyone that denies picking their nose should be riding a victory.
I do have chaps, and wear them when it's cold or if I might go down, but I don't care for them in the summer, unlessI go to high country and may need them.
I also have electric gear, a jacket liner and gloves, that I wore in 40 degree weather while I rode till 1:30 am this morning. Not cause I'm wimpy, cause I like to be comfortable and enjoy my ride. My first time using them, and the jacket was just nice enough, didn't get over hot at all, but the gloves were lame for being electric. Maybe if I were a bit more macho I'd carry a 55 gallon drum on board and start a fire in it, and stand around it while I ride, like a bum, or just be uncomfortable while I ride...yeah, right. I like being comfy when I ride, and I may even start wearing fingerless gloves, when it warms up, just so I can flick boogers on dumba$$e$

Some guys on here are opinionated, but aren't we all. If you want to keep yours to yourself that's your perogative. If you want toshare em, do what ya gotta do.
I will say this, the more I see idiot drivers that almost run over bike riders, the more I get a 'biker attitude'. If you spend alot of time on a bike around idiots then you start getting tainted. I live2 blocks from a retirement community, AZ is basically snow bird country in winter time, that is old folks everywhere, and you have to watch you a$$ here when they're around, not to mention the irresponsible new generation of drivers that think they'reentittled to act like they're on a race track, and if you're in the way...well ya know.
It's not difficult to develop an attitude with this kind or crap going on everywhere. It shows on here sometimes, and then there are times when someguys have to pound their chest on here cause they will get it pounded by someone else if they voice some of this crap in the wrong, or is it the right bar.
Takes all kinds, just ignore the crap, and if you feel you can ejamacate someone, then just try, or learn to live with what is.
Enjoy the ride, it's free, and doesn't require even a pint offuel, so enjoy. Adios

There are alot of people that will help you on here. The fact that the specialized forums do have folks with experience with that particular bike is undisputed, but you can get some good 'general' information on here, and some good counterpoint arguements also. I like a little devils advocate occasionally, to remind me of what else there is out there.

There's nothing wrong with you, welcome to the forums by the way. No a sportster isn't a girls bike, it's just an opinion that gets coined by folks who think you have to dress and ride exactly like them. I myself don't get a $hit what others think about what I ride or wear. I've got my Harley and I also ride my wifes Suzuki V-strom when I feel like a change of pace, according to some that probably makes me less of a biker for riding a metric, so what I don't care. If someone else wants to play Johnny Bad a$$ it don't hurt my feelings, let'm write what they want on the forums.

The most important thing I believe for a lot of the forum members is trying to figure out how to fit in.What better place to ask the kinds of questions they want answers to.Given that, and except for the complainers let's lighten up a bit. Some of the questions might seem a little stupid to the seasoned riders, but don't forget, you are not born with a skull full of all the knowledge you need.

Greenstreetbob,........Your post is more normal than you think. I believe that if you hang around long enough, you will find that this place has more than enough to offer you. It has a never ending influx of old and, new blood. Almost all of them trying to out do one another with comments and suggestions, most often, with good faith and intentions. The old timers have pretty much seen the same type of posts with their particular problems many times before. They have learned that its a lot easier to just skip it. Durogatory comments are handled much the same way. Go on with your life and sort out the things that are worthy from thosethat are not. Soon, you will know that things like riding or owning asportster (or anything else in relation to your post)is a lot more demanding than people think and, when you have reached that point, your confidencein yourself will be able to compensate for any negatives out there.Ride safe.

Wow! I love my fingerless gloves. I had no idea they weren't cool. Now I have to change my whole self image when I ride around with them.

beats me why people freak on chaps, they do keep bugs off your dockers on the way to the office and fingerless gloves are great for picking your nose when you ride which is also a great excuse for not waving at metric bikes .
Thanks for the laugh on Sat morning !![sm=funnypostabove.gif]
