There are alot of dangers for us out there but, none so bad as the cell phone in my opinion. I am constantly in near miss situations more so today than, say, five years ago and every time it is a bimbo suckin' on a cig chattin on a cell phone or a blue hair with those HUGE sunglasses.
I bought one of those bluetooth things to drive with because I nearly plowed into one of my buddies talking on that damn thing. To hell with fighting the losing battle of helmet laws (we have to wear them in Mississippi anyway) let's get the damn phones out of the kiddies and the biddies hands and save our brother and sister's lives.
I know that in some states it is illegal to use a hand held device while driving. I have an earpiece I use when I drive. I have just noticed an increase of accidents attributed to cellgazing. And yes those blue hairs drive slow in their Caddy's!
I see this all the time , one interesting thing ive noticed isthererudeness and irratic driveing is often not "illigal" per say, just real anoying like slowing-speeding-up,blinker on but no turn...ect.
The blue haired rolling road block forces us normal riders to be even more vigalent with defencive riding[:@]
I live two blocks from one of the largest retirement cities in the world, and I don't see that many cell phone problems from them, like I do young girls and mothers. I do see some construction guys that look like the are supervisors that are too busy on the phone to drive, but the old folks don't seem to be the cell phone problem here, but I didn't say they can be obstacles either though, They can. They just don't seem to be able to blame it on cell phones as much as lack of attention.
If you have problems with that situation, try to route around it. May even take you on a better ride than you anticipate.
You might also try a modulating light that they think is a cop and start paying attention.
When I have one I'm concerned with I pull up next to them so they see me, and rev the bike to they hear me, then either pass them or fade back since they know I'm there now, just don'ta mistakeand ride in the blind spot.
Its scary enough having to worry about them teenie boppers yacking on the phone but I think I fear the text message bandits more, Ive seen em going down the road trying to light a cigarette with one hand, texting with the other hand and trying to steer with there knee, yeah that seems real safe.
