Default BAGGER FRONT END DIVING

I ride a 05 elec glide classic and noticed right away that panic stops made the rear end rise and the front end dive...This took all the weight off the rear and tapping on the rear brake only caused the rear wheel to lock up over and over. It seemed I was doomed by science as
my bike only stops so fast...period...I bought progressive springs and thicker oil but have not done the job because it's a big one....
How do some of our good riders deal with this.... LATER ANDRE'

Andre,

I put "Progressive" wound springs in my front forks which lowered it 1 1/4 inch. You can get a stock length spring too. I lowered my rear end 1 1/4" with a lowering kit. The Progressive springs are wound different than stock and stops the dive. My bike handles curves like a slot car now.

You should be squeezing the brake, not grabbing it even in a panic stop. Squeeze it smoothly, all the way till you stop. You'll stop a ton quicker than grabbing the brake, and you won't lock up. Same applies to the rear. Press it slowly. They teach you how to do it in the MSF course, which I can't recommend enough.
It doesn't matter how fabulous the front suspension is, if you grab the front brake it will make the front end dive.

Exactly & remember, you're on a bagger not a GP bike. Some may get theirs to handle better than stock & think it's a true twistie machine, but personally I think baggers are a case where physics takes over and they will never handle (or stop) like a sportbike. They weigh about 800lbs for christ's sake.

I have to agree.. braking is almost all front wheel...and I have a hard time duplicating panic stops in pratice. At some point physics seems to take over. My st bob dives about 2 inches on panic stops. The bagger is more like 4 or 5 inches. If I had someone big on the back this might be different. NO SOLUTION !!! I'm going to put in thicker oil and progressive springs. It is an issue as a quick red light will cause rear
wheel slide in every gear. Worse in the rain.. Thanks for the reply !!!!!!!!!!!! ANDRE'

Thanks for the reply I'm used to tapping the front brake to set up a turn. It just seems this bike puts its *** in the air like it don't care. (on panic stops) At that point the rear brake leaves. Tapping it just goes "skid skid skid" with no pedal pressure. I noticed this since the start and my buddies had similar comments.....I'm on it but it may take some rain to "git ur done" Thanks ANDRE'
