I own a pair. There great to ride in. Warm, protective and chicks dig em.
I guess if your insecure about your sexuality, you should probably not get a pair.
Having said that, I would not wear them as part of my wardrobe; to go out to a bar in, or a friends house, etc. UNLESS I was on my scoot . It is equipment, like gloves, helmets, eyewear, etc.
