I guess it depends on the place and the clubs. It is the right of the establishment to ban colors. Most likley there has been a problem in the past. The old "some a$$wipe screwing it up for the rest of us" thing.
We only have one true three patch here in town, The Pistoleros. We co-exist with no problems. They pretty much keep to themselves when there are a group of them but they cause no problems and really are a great bunch to ride with and I'm friends with quite a few of them. I'm a member of H.O.G. and they view me as a member of a riding club not a 1% M.C.
I do think it is considered by most that it is legal and the right of private businesses to dictate what type of attire is required for admission. I believe that myself up to a point.
However, some bars that ban colors also discourage bikers period. So do we only get upset when it affects us personally? I think all bikers should boycott businesses that ban colors unless the specific MC has caused organized problems there previously. MCs tend to police themselves quite effectively for the most part.
But,if I owned a business that was losing money because other customers were intimidated by large groups of colors wearing bikers, I'm pretty sure that I would try to work something out with the club and if that failed then ban colors. Just saying.
While I get the right to do what you want with rules in your own establishment, Gump is right- it can impact all of us. I had a conversation the other day with another rider that couldn't fathom not being able to find a place to camp the whole length of Cape Cod, or stay in a hotel, or anything. Seems many of us never experienced that, or haven't yet.
Wasn't the only place it happened to me, but that was a scary night for a wet, cold, clean cut teenager ON A HONDA!! With MONEY...500 miles from home.Thank god for the nice couple that owned a little motel in Plymouth, Mass that I begged with that night for somewhere to stay....I wasn't that happy with them after having to BEG to stay..and pay an extra deposit, and park the bike around back, at the time, but they probably saved my life that night...shivering so bad, couldn;t have been outside much longer.
Kind of off topic, but the point is..we should stick up for ALL BIKERS RIGHTS!!!
John Michael Montgomery's bar in Nicholasville has a bike night on Wednesdays, but I quit going to it, even though he is an aquaintance of mine. Last time I went in there was a sign at the door banning cigars and pipes. WTF, you can smoke a stinking old 15 cent cigarette in there, but I can't smoke a 15 dollar cigar???? Lost my business with that one. BTW, most bike type establishments around here ban colors, and have for along time.
The problem with Neil's place as it was advertised as a "BIKE NIGHT", put ads in local rags, websights (even COC'S!), etc....then he pulls the "NO COLORS" crap...got a lotta people PO'd...
The "biker bars" I've been to in south Al,middle Tn,north Fl,and Ms,DO let PHer's wear their cuts and/or Patch shirts, support shirts, etc. Go to a certain strip club in Ocala,Fl on Friday or Saturday night, and you'll see some 1%er's flying. Don't know why they hang there.
