Would like some comments on riding Eastern Europe. I am riding a Harley around Eastern Europe from the middle of May to the end of June this year. Plan to hit Praha, Wien, Budapest, Bucuresti, Sofiya, Krakow, Warszawa, Berlin and Frankfurt. Will be taking smaller roads and wander around in between cities.
I know enough from past visits to stay off the Autobahns in Germany. If anyone has any suggestions, ideas for roads, places that are a must see, or just helpful hints, your input would be welcome.
Can't help with tips and hints, but please when you get back share your story with us. Pics would be awesome too. Would love to go on an adventure like that!
I've a ridding friend in the Budapest HOG chapter. I'll email him and see if it's okay to forward his email address to you for any questions. He and his group ride all over that part of Europe on a regular basis. He comes over here to the US once a year for a doctors convention and we usually ride for 3-4 days while he's here.
Send me a PM and Ill help you out and take you with me on some trips.
I am a Canadian who has been living in Europe for 15 years and love the roads, you MUST add Austria to your travel as there are some roads that are truly awesome.
Ride safe and talk soon.
Dan
p.s. Canadian women are butt ugly compared to eastern europe, I speak from experience.
Why do all Canadian College girls wear sweat pants? So they can grow into them:-)
2 things:
First:Will you ride your bike or you'll rent one there?
Second: can avoid definately northern germany. Point your attention to Alps (from France to austria and Slovenia) , Italy (why not?).
You'll not forget Alps scenario ( if you want I can MP some trial).
Ok for the other countries Romania and Bulgaria, BUT, buy a good andreliable theft insurance. And try to reserve almost 4/5 star hotels and try to ride along with someone else.
Buon viaggio!

Thanks for the reply. I have gone all over Western Europe, including Italy, so want to try out Eastern Europe this time. Love Italy. Used to ski with the Captain of one of your warships. Really cool guy.
Anything you have to add on Eastern Europe would be great, but plan to ship my Boss Hoss to Europe next year so any suggestions on Western Europe, Italy would be great also.
Will rent a bike this trip. Green card is taken care of and medical is done. I keep an International Drivers License so ok for Austria. If I missed something, let me know.
Thanks
Rick
It's been just about 3 decades since I was there, not really sure what's still available. Definitely breweries and wineries. Since you mentioned Poland, Zywiec up in the high mountains is the best place on earth to drink Zywiec beer. Not far away is the Auschvitz camp/memorial if you want a somber moment. In Krakow, you absolutely have to tour the Wawel (Royal Castle during the kingdom's height) and try to get a tour in one of the nearby salt caves. Other ones are as you continue up the Wisla river to Warszawa. Inowroclaw has a good-sized cave, and your right next to Torun, home of Kopernik. Somehow the town managed to escape a lot of destruction during the many wars and has a strong medievel flavor. If you're into medievel, the 1st capital in Gniezno is worth the trip as is the castle of the Teutonic Nights in Malbork (Marienburg). If I were going, a stop for old map junkies is Vienna. The largest collection by far, in the world. Romania? Vlad the Impaler's (Dracula) castles. Hungary? the underground tunnels. Praha? tha Hapsburg palace.
