Well I renewed my membership of my local HOG Chapter today. Afterwards I got to thinking about why. I would like to be more active and go on more of the rides but why do I need to pay 20 bucks to be able to ride with a group? How many people here are active in their local chapter?
I am part of the local chapter for community involvement only. I ride some times with them but I dont do a lot of it. I also get 10 percent off all parts since I am a local member and that more than pays for my local dues and sometimes national also.
I thought it might be a well spent $20 but then I realized I have towing with my insurance. The HOG activities are mostly on Sunday morning when I would prefer to be in church. I earn HOG bucks at the dealer so I don't need any activity participation for discounts. I had attended meetings with them for about a year and half and I only know the names of two people. The rest just kinda hang with their long time friends and the conversations are way to personal to get involved in. Yeah, the weather is nice and the bikes are good lookin, see ya next month.
I've never joined HOG. Parents got a free membership but never payed to renew it. Not to mention alot of dealerships at least around me don't even except HOG discount anymore. If I want to go on rides I can do it for a free on Wednesday nights at a local bar or do their charity runs and all the proceeds go to a charity.
Only time I've had a HOG membership was when I got the free year with a new bike, never renewed...I have my own road service, and besides I've never cared for the "parade style " riding HOG does...and I'm not riding in close formation with people who may have limited or almost nil experience, which is often the case in my area...
