I would agree with lecomte38.
I think on average a Stage I will increase torque and Hp by 15%.
That has been my experience with the last two Harleys I've owned. It's a relatively cheap modification with big dividens.

It is so worth it. Just the sound alone will make you grin from ear to ear. As far as clear performance numbers, not sure, but it is definitely noticeable. I agree with "ord sgt", break it in first, and then do the stage 1. Maybe agree to do it with the sales guy before u make the purchase and get free mapping out of it. That way you can do it yourself and then trailor the bike to them to hook up the free downloads.

Yes, it's worth it. Harley's are tuned down coming out of the factory. Stage 1 puts them right about were they should be.

ORIGINAL: ord sgt

Doing it yourself is a load of fun. Did mine one piece at a time. You will feel the difference. I suggest breaking in the bike before doing any mods.
I would take that advice only in choosing what you really want and taking your time.ie. pipes, air, tunner. The stage 1 will not harm your engine during break-in it will probably help it.

Thanksa bunchfor all the great replies, guys. Some mentioned the great sound. However, I`m not for too much of a good thing, so could you tell me more about this sound enhancing ? Like the sound of thestock HDsfrom a few years back or louder, as I`m not into punched out baffles and such. Thanks again !

I just bought an '08 105th Heritage Softail. I'm waiting about 6 months to make sure nothings wrong for warranty reasons and then having stage 1 done with Rhinehart 2-1 pipes.

YES..... absolutly worth the extra investment.

Save yourself a bundle and either do things yourself, or put yourself in the hands of a good independant shop (a.k.a. an indy). Let the indy guide you through the BS, and look closer here online. There really is a ton of information regarding Stage 1 mods.

Most aftermarket pipes have some sort of baffle option; so if you don't like the sound there are ways to quiet things down without a performance hit.

Replace all your oils with synthetic oils and your bike will get additionally cooler for you. (Stage 1 will cool things off simply by letting the engine run richer).

I did mine as soon as the pipes came in, I didn't see a need to wait for any sort of break-in period.

You're probably looking at about $1,000 for a complete Stage 1. New Pipes, New High-Flow air cleaner set up, and some sort of fuel manager. Some money can be saved by going with slip-ons and skipping the fuel manager, but you'll need an ECM download to accomodate an air/fuel mixture change.

Personally, I would look hard at the Vance & Hines exhaust system offerings (most have baffle options), either Alren Ness Big Sucker (air cleaner setup), or K&N has a good air box set up as well. I kept things simple and went with V&H FuelPak to act as my fuel manager, but if you like messing with a laptop in the garage, a PCIII will give you tons of options to tweak to your hearts content.

Keep us informed.

I have had warranty work done and I have had Stage 1 from the start. I don't want to get into a debate about it.Thats why you should let the dealer install. I would not recommend installing your pipes yourself in the parking lot as was mentioned to save $70.00.
