There are also several replies stating that the owner had Stage 1 modification done before they collected their bike new and that "It runs much better". If they never rode the thing stock, before the mods were done, how do they know itruns better? Or do they just think it must do because the dealer told them it would?
I'm assuming your in the UK by your sig so I'll take your quote as a legitimate question rather than a shot.
Thanks for giving me some leeway no account of my anglo-saxon origin . I wasn't really taking a shot at anyone, just hoping to provoke aresponse from someone who had experienced both'before' and 'after' Stage 1, which is what you have provided. Thanks.
Stage 1 is not worth it, if you buy a reace tuner it's much easier to have the bike dialed in properly on a Dyno, if you do the Stage 1 on any bike 06- to current, they do not increase the fuel ratio at all due to EPA regualations. Buy a Power Commander from Jamie At Fuel Moto and you will be much happier, and if you sell your bike you can take the PC and put it on the new bike, can't do that with a BS Stealer download.

I was wondering if anyone was going to disagree with the pack. I'm with you.
You can do slipons and get great sound without any additional mods. No fuel management or air kit thingy. But if you want to enrichen your fuel mixture and get some more air, add a PCIII or TFI or SE Race Fuelerand the SE stage one air kit. The filters are not as good as some, but you can add a K&N if you want (unless you have an 08). And you don't need a dyno. And you don't need the Stage 1 download if you use a fuel manager as suggested.
Unfortunately I have heard mostly the same about the stage 1 download for new bikes ('06 and on)... not worth it because of the epa. I think there used to be a "race" stage 1 download, but not any more... I think. The standard download just doesn't do much of anything except a very small richening, not enough to change afr or cool the engine. Seems that most reccommend to apply the money to a fuel controller (pcIII, sert, ect.) The only plus is increasing the rev limiter and that's not a big deal anyway. Probably works better on bikes before '06.
Its worth it just to get the lean out but the way to go is look on ebay for what you need then do it yourself or find a small shop and save yourself a few hundred dollars. This is the cahnce for a dealer to get the most they can right off the bat before you get knowlegible.
I had a lot of problems with the stock 07 pinging. On a hot summer day roll on the throttle on the freeway and it was embarassing, not the Harley sound I thought I was buying.
How ever you do it, you will love it when you open up the intake, exhaust and give it more fuel, which isexactly what Stage 1 is doing.
I have good results with SE AC, SERT, and old style SE 'torque'slip on.
