My rides are usually to work and back, 38 miles one way.

My enjoyment rides are usuall Saturday afternoons after I return my daughter to her mom. Then time is more the reason to stop than anything else. I have to do my weekend chores, and shop for food and what not then I can ride. Usually about 200-300 miles total.

When I get my vacation time, I spend it all on the bike riding from one camground to the next. Usually about 4000-5000 miles in 2 weeks. Noname

Unfortunately these days I ride to work and work to ride (rain or shine) most of the year. I only get 1 weekend off a month which doesn't line up with my riding partner, my wife. However I get 5 weeks of vacation at which time those days are planned in such a manner that allows me to be exclusively on the bike and with my wife in the sidecar. Sometimes we have some wheres to go other times not. And whatever else thats going on in the world can go to hell.

The empty nest deal is a weird feeling. It feels awkward to have so much time on my hands after so many years of little league, soccer, girlscouts, hockey, piano lessons, Equestrian stuff, horses, dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, geese, etc.... The next window of happiness I am hoping is retirement at which time I hope to be on 2 or 3 wheels 24/7.

Normal for you is what you make it.We ride most of the time during daylighthours, unless we get carried away with having too much fun.

If I'm just going for a "ride" then that usually means something short - maybe 50-100 miles. If am going "riding" then that usually means for the day and will be anywhere from 300-500 miles. Taking a "trip" entails several days and we usually cover 500 or miles in a day.

Idon't know if there is such a thing as a "normal" ride. Sometimes bombing around for 30 - 45 minutes is all I can get in. Sometimes I have all day. (unfortunately not that often...) I do try to get out for a while every single day of the riding season. Even a short ride is better than none at all.

When you and the SO, or you and your "buds", or just you, say you are going for a ride, what do you consider your "normal" distance for a ride? Or what is your "normal" range? When I say going for a ride, it means around60 -100 miles one way or so. If we are going further than that, then I say a "long" ride. Going out home (SoDak) to see my oldest son, is 'bout 260 (5-6hrs)one way, that is a "long" ride, Sturgis is 750(about 12 hrs), that is a "trip" for us. Just curious. THANX

I'm GUMBY Dammit !
I would say I follow your thoughts pretty much. A trip for me is anything that is overnight.
A ride can be be any distance that has me in my own bed the same day.
