Just curious what others are doing for their leather care. Just got my FXRG mid-weight jacket yesterday (used - ebay) and want to make sure the leather is taken care of.
There's so much out there, saddle soap, mink oil and tons of other products.
FXGR stuff is supposed to stand up to anything, if the ads are correct. Just wear it and forget it. Or you could put it on and roll around on some asphalt to give it that "salty" look
All leather products need conditioning once in a while. An old saddle maker friend of mine recommended Lexol. It is available at shoe stores, feed stores, etc. If you can't find it, the HD liquid "Leather Care" appears to be the same stuff, just costs more. HD also markets a liquid leather cleaner to remove bugs and grime that has gotten down into the pores of the leather.
I clean and treat all of our leather at least twice a year, and any time that the leather has a prolonged exposure to moisture.
Ibought my jacket in 1999 (it was about 6 years old at that time) and wore it without worrying about it because I bought it from a friend for $65. He needed the money and I needed a jacket so considering the cost I didn't worry about protecting it. It lasted until the rescue guys at the accident scene cut it off of me (sleeves up). I was ready for a new jacket because that one had 40,000 miles and the sleeves were starting to get torn around the ends (probably from the gauntlets). I suggest doing maintenence on your jacket as needed.
