I'm in the military, so I need to have some kind of reflective material when I'm riding. I'm interested in this vest (which HD so conveniently discontinued)
But I think I might be able to find a better deal than what this guy is offering. His shipping charges are almost as much as the vest!!!
I guess my question is, does anybody know where I might be able to find one of these on the cheap? Preferably new? Ebay has nothing...except for the really bright orange ones.

MSF sells a couple and price is reasonable. Good quality also. The have a bright orange model but also carry a black vest with white reflective panels. Seems to meet the after dark requirement. Here's a link:
Check with you command because at the Naval Station in San Diego they specified that it had to be a "bright colored" vest, ie. orange. I found a net one that I could take off and ball up in my pocket as soon as I got out of the gate.
I used to ride with a cat that was active duty National Guard and he had to carry his vest EVERYWHERE. He told me that he is ever involved in a crash to put his vest on him if he couldn't, because his life insurance wouldn't pay out if he was killed while riding without it??? Any truth to that??
Find a DOT worker and tell him you'll give him $20 bucks for his, betcha he will sell it to ya!!

They made all the guys sign a page 13 stating that we understood that we were to wear the same "outfit" required on the base, off base at all times. The thought that went through my mind at the time was "they make us travel in civilian close so as not to attract attention making us a target, then require motorcycle riders wear that sissy vest, ensuring everyone knew we were active duty military". Go figure.

To be honest I don't know how much truth there is to that statement. I've heard both sides of that argument. I think the military (at least the army) has gone overboard with their safety policies. Some units from what I've heard are making it punitive. I don't think it will be too long before they require us to wear full face only helmets. I've been through 2 different MSF courses. One at Ft. Campbell and one at Ft. Rucker. During the classroom portion where they talk about different kinds of helmets the first class I went to (about 4 years ago) talked about all different kinds...i.e. 1/2 helmets, 3/4 helmets, full face, and modular helmets. The second class (last year) the 1/2 helmet wasn't even mentioned. It's a load of crap if you ask me.
I was at the dealer the other day and they had about 10 of the vests you are talking abouton the rack. I think $39.95 each.
other than that you are kinda stuck with the really bright vest. I just put on a PT belt here on FT. Sill. thanks for serving
Travis
When I was teaching MSF I had to have a vest to get on base where I taught. I found a nice one at our local BMW dealer. The mesh was black with the lime green reflective bands.
