Lewisville PD Motorcycle Patrol Dissolved - A local police department is doing away with its motorcycle patrol and the death of a Dallas motorcycle officer, last week, apparently played a role in the decision.

It was a tragic event which spurred the decisionand I saw the article on the news and the assistant chief stated that there was no advantage of being on two wheels for officers. I believe they only had a few bikes in their fleet. They are going to auction off the bikes(they are Honda's) not Harley's.

So are they going to do away with cars also since several cops have been killed in the metroplex over the last few years while on patrol in a cage.

Being a motor officer is dangerous. We've had a motor patrol 10 years and have had more than one serious accident that was not the motor officer's fault. During that same time, we've had many times more patrol car accidents. I don't recall a cop every being hurt in one. However, in nearly every bike accident, a cast or surgery was required.

well lewisville is like Plano and they have enough redlight cameras it wont make a difference anyway

When do the squad's go. More are killed in them. And guns, some one could take the gun away and shoot them. Cancell the patrols, its dangerous out there. Stupid is as stupid does.
