Default Stock color options

I have a long term plan of getting a Night Train or a Fat Bob in the Red Denim color. I probably wont get one this year and was wondering if Halrley has some system where they discontinue colors . Like do they have them for a couple of years that change to something else or is it just random based on what they sell?

Thanks for the help Im a newb.

Hello there FUTURE brother, and welcome to these forums. I have been lurking for the past few days, saw your post, and decided to register and respond.

First, from the posts that I have read on these forums (and I have been reading a ton!) I dont think any of the folks here would "ignore" you since you dont have a bike yet!

Im guessing its more, they just simply do not know.

Second, if you find the right sales guy at the right dealership and go in and are honest with him about your purchase decisions and time frame, if he truly wants the sale and cares about you as a customer, then he will take all the time in the world with you. How many dealerships do you have close to you? I know I have 3 that are fairly close, and several that are a bit of drive. My local ones, not real happy with the sales folks, but the last one I was just in (and it was a bit of a drive for me), wound up buying an 08 Ultra from the nicest salesperson I have ever met at an HD dealership.

Sorry I couldnt answer your question, but wanted to say WELCOME to the wonderful worldof two wheels! (almost!)

-T

Thanks for the reply ,. My concern is the sales guy will want to make the sale and tell me the color will be gone next year thinking he will make a sale now ,but he wont.

Im surprised standard color options are such mysteried thats all . Not trying to sound like a cry baby even though perhaps it sounds that way.

Thanks again Bro

Hey VA Biker:

The Motor Co. is like any other MFG. They continue on with "whatever" sells!!! If the denim is popular it will be here on the 09's. The colors may change, the dull finish can still be there. Everytime I see a denim paint job, I get this urge to color sand the surface and spray clear and buff it to a high shine. But that's just me, my wife likes the denim, what does she know ?

The will always have....Black. Seems they switch a color or two each year overall. Then it depends on what bike you choose as to what is available as a color option. Could always try to negotiate a great deal and have it painted with your savings.

VA Biker.

First of all, welcome to the forum. You are among friends here whether you own a bike or not, as we all share the same passion... Motorcycles.

That said and has been said previously, Harley Davidson is a market driven company. Like the auto industry, they come out with new color combinations every year. The "denim" colors have not been around the HD scene all that long, maybe 3 or 4 years (I may be wrong on that, but it seems right.)

Your sales guy probably won't know if a particular color will be available in the future. HD discontinues some colors and introduces new ones every year. It's strictly market driven... they try to come up with colors that appeal to the potential buyer in order to sell as many bikes as possible. They usually introduce the new-year line in the summer (June/July). Watch the Harley Davidson website at http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/C...p?locale=en_US and do some shopping. Read read read and learn learn learn everything you can about the bikes you like. Hang out here and ask questions. This is a great place to learn just about anything you need to know. Then, when you are finally ready to "pull the trigger" on the purchase of the bike you want, you can go to the dealership fully prepared to do what you need to do.

As for denim paint, I didn't care for them when they first came out. I kept thinking, "They could have clear coated that thing and really had something". But the colors have grown on me. I'd definately own a black denin Cross Bones if I could afford another bike.

So enjoy the journey. Actually, this pre-purchase phase can be a lot of fun!
