So... What was the shortest you've worn your cast?
I broke my right ankle Sunday, and it's getting a cast Tuesday. No surgery, that's good. April 23 is the River Run, that's bad. I told the ER doc that I'd be cutting my cast on the 22nd, in preperation for the ride....
I would suspect that a non-displaced closed fracture of the ankle would take 4-6 wks in the cast. If there are ligament complications that could add to the time spent immobilized.
My opinion is that if the follow up at 4 wks is favorable, they may take the cast off. If they are not looking that way, you can lobby for a walking cast, or "boot" to use. Take it off onas tolerated, and throw on yourregular bootwith a brace for the ride.
Best bet, let your Doc know your situation and he will try to accomodate you.
There is a doctor on the MotoGP circuit that has a few ways of treating the same injury 1. Proper/conventional medical treatment 2. hurried medical. 3. Race medical.
The physician will accomodate your expressed needs as he can. Let him know what you want to do.
Ive broken pretty much every bone in my body including both ankles twice each. This is just my opinion but the ankle is not the one to cheat out on. I did and I cant run now because of it. It even hurts to walk some times. I didnât cut the cast off but I did walk on it because crutches were pure hell. Its always sore, its weak and it gives out and thatâs why I broke it a second time. Jumped off a small ledge and it just gave out and folded under. I hit the ground. : )
Id leave it on if I were you⌠Your ankle is pretty important. Your call though.
