I screwed up working on one of my bikes. Book was wrong and I fought this problem trying to follow the book. Figured out what I had done--went to my dealership to reorder a part I screwed up. They sold me a replacement part below their price, their cost not their makeup. I told them that I screwed up--my fault and I was willing to pay retail still got replacement below cost. My dealership did me more then right. There have been times when I was not happy with cost or having to order the part but this dealership knows me, treats me good, and trys hard.
Now that its over with I am laughing about it. The plumming analogy is right on. I know its mostly my fault for not inspecting the parts before leaving the dealership. Btw I swear its me because its not one dealership, its every one I buy from. I get home and its missing mounting equipment or the chrome or powder coat is "blemished" as 4mrracer likes to say. What kills me though is how crappy customer service is EVERYWHERE these days, not just occasionally at HD. Bought something the other day where the girl never made eye contact said a word to me (including telling me the price) because she was on the cell phone the entire time and I didnt even react like it was a bad thing. It was afterwards it donned on me because its such a norm now days.
Why would you torment yourself by going to someplace called a stealership? Just the name alone would keep me away from the place. I just don't understand how someone can feel that way about a place of business and still shop there. My dealership has always been right. So there.

Seems to me it was self inflicted. You say you always get stuff messed up so why wouldnt you check it before you leave.
Not only that, it sounds like you DEALERSHIP was more than helpful.
I agree I should check my stuff before I go, but how in the world did you get that my dealership was more then helpful? The guy said he wasnt going to try to track down any parts that night, "it was too late" it was still a couple hours before closing and I was able to call 3 dealerships and find the parts.
I've had pretty good experience with most HD dealers. My localseems very good and genuinely interested in making sure you are squared away. If nothing else,I aupposethey know there are at least 6 HD dealers within a 45 minute drive (orless). Competition is a good thing...

It did seem like it was rather late but you were able to do something that the parts guy should have done.
Still, the stealership label just rubs me wrong. 30 year Chevy parts guy here and we do everything we can to help our customers out.
The HD parts guys are sort of "brothers in arms". The guys I work with are usually very helpful. Each dealer has a different work ethic I suppose.
Maybe thats just me.

Thats why its in your best interest to learn the different parts book not only were your parts not inspected before you got them ( which is what most dealers will do for their best interest) but there are many other options than to keep purchasing from someone who screws your order up all the time.
The best thing to do is go to use a drag specialties(occasionally Custom crome) book on line and get to understand it. when you star doing this youl find many more reliable option and it will also save you thousands. I prefer using ebay or I got 4 good shops including the hd dealer here that I can always go to to get the part asap depending on the part. example Harley sells 5 3/4 headlights for $80 dollars you can get a similiar bulb for $15 to $35 through Drag Specs. and I never yet had a bad part yet. thats just my 2 cents mostly off subject but i used to work at a dealer and the happiest costumers were the ones that came in with a part number opened up a book and pointed it out for clarity. Also you and the person who checked you out should have open the box and inspected the part even if it was done before. But Learn the different setup and different fitments for different bikes and if you know what your looking at ebay is the way to go by far Ive had 1 bad part through ebay but guy was pretty honest(kinda)but that dont compare to the savings and good service ive gotten. thats my rant it about three ive been up for almost 40 hours know mostly working and the screen fuzzy
You need to learn how to **** with people and annoy them back. Its a game---if I irritate them more than they irritate me I win. I get to be A**hole of the day. Life is full of lesson and some repeats.

its not me ordering the wrong part, because they fit fine. They always tend to either be missing parts, or the finish is screwed up. As for ordering off ebay, there is no way in hell Id order a part such as fork lowers off there but I would order chrome covers etc off there. As for my dealership having bad customer service, I am seeing a trend since Ive been to 4 dealerships in two days and have to return 2 sets of uppers and one set of lowers because of bad finish on these items because of being beaten to death in transit. Guesss what, not one of those parts guys offered to open the box and inspect them but this time I did say hey lets open them up this time and ended up walking out without my parts for the above mentioned reason. So I cant blame a dealer because so far they all have acted that way.
