Was wondering how well the helmet audio you get with a purchase of an Ultra works for most of you all? The p/n is 77147-98. Been debating on wether to get another for mama or to go with the J&M setup? If I can get by with just buying another headset instead of 2 I will be mucho happy. But if the HD headset is crap I would rather spend the big bucks on a J&M intergrated setup. So please, lemme hear your experiences with this headset! Thanks!
My preference is J&M, much better sound quality especially for music. If your use is mainly for intercom & CB I don't know that you can tell the difference in audio quality and you don't have to have matching headsets on the Ultra for the system to work.
I know that it don't work very well to mix J&M and the Harley supplied headset. Something to do with impedence mismatch or something. I use the Harley headsets on mine and they work as good as any I have tried as far as the sound quaility is concerned. The problem is the Harley sets don't seem to last very long and of course Harley wont make them good. If I had it to do all over again I would just can the supplied headset and buy two of the lowest priced J&M headsets and be done with it. They stand behind their product 100%. When I rode GW's that is all I used. Mr. Lazzeroni is a stand up guy. He also makes some fine guns. If you are just going to use yours for the intercom the Harley sets will be fine. They just really suck for the cb. You can get them pretty cheap on e-bay some time also. JMTCW
I have the Harleys ones and use mine all the time to listen to tunes. Not the absolute best sound quality but then with the all the other road noise, I don't think it makes much difference.
The sound quality is fine for voice communication such as listening to a radio talk show or using the CB and intercom, but for music they are a bit of a disappiointment. I listen to my music via the bikes speaker system, much better IMO.

I have the J & M elites. Pretty good sound but as expected its still not like having a full surround stereo. I think they perform better than the HD units and are also very well made. The cords are rugged and maintain their coils very well. I have them mounted inside of a full face helmet also so I do not have a boom for a mic. The ear pieces dont cause any discomfort in the helmet either. I used to have to turn the volume uppretty high to hear the tunes past the wind noise and exhaust which I'm sure was pretty annoying to anyone that wasnt on the bike. I'm pretty happy with the results overall. I purchased my helmet with the headset installed from J & M. Great service and they were very helpful with any questions I had.
