Stupid primary question
I have been wondering why is it that HD didn't make it easier to change your primary fluid? I mean, why no fill hole in the cover? Just seems stupid to have to go thru removing the cover's bolts and replacing the gasket just to change the fluid. Has anyone drilled and tapped a hole for filling? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

Yeah......it's stupid. Especially with mine holding 1 quart. I have often thought of drilling/tapping a fill hole on the top of the case. It would make changing primary oil a5 minute job.

If they can't make it easier to access they could at least use quality metal for the five access screws. I checked mine last weekend, 4 screws came out fine, the 5th one stripped out. I had to go to Home Depot to buy an easy out kit for 20.00 . busted the end off of the easy out, had to drill the screw center out and bust the remainder off with a punch, then remove the cover and back the shaft of the screw out with pliers, Not a fun project at all. After all that I went to the dealership to buy 5 new screws, they were fourteen dollars, but one screw by itself was two dollars, so you could buy 5 individual screws for 10 bucks, or packaged for 14.00, go figure.

RE: Stupid primary question
you dont have to change derby or inspection covers the used gaskets are more than fine ive opened mine about 6 times now not any leaking and it would definetly show on my primary because of its color. I have seen on the most 06 and proirs that they make a inspect cover with a fill nozel and cap. It thought it was jp cycles but havent seen it in the books i still have.

My 02 and 05 Dyna's have an inspection plate I take off put in oil, close it up and ride. The inspection plate disappeared when HD put their self adjusting primary chain device in the primary. No manual adjustments, no need for an inspection plate. Pulling the derby cover is a bit awkward. Time the fluid change with your clutch adjustment (at room temperature) and cover comes off once.
