overdoing it
I'm all about safe riding, but the Army is getting a little crazy. We now not only have to wear a reflective vest while on a military installation, but are forced to carry our cycle safety card whenever we enter and exit a military facility......I'm just venting a little here, but the folks that always show up on the "preliminary loss reports" are generally young soldiers on crotch rockets that have not even taken a safety course.
Common sense should prevail....any thoughts on this?
That was a nice way to meet the squadron SgtMaj trying to explain that on my first day. He never did forget my name.
If you get back up around McCoy give me a yell live 139 miles from it we will ride I have been to Atterbury, IN a few times if the army sends you up without the bike no worry I have a spare
smitty901 you sound like a great Top!(leading from the front) We had a guy get medical'd out from launching his RoadKing while drunk after leaving the NCO club. He damn near died, and will never be the same. This was just prior to our deployment to Afghanistan in '04. Then when we got from back from OEF a guy did the same thing on his Ultra. He's barely 40 and lives in a Nursing home now. We're going to see him next month after drill. I was at Ft. McCoy in 2006 for OIF Mob and heard all about that incident there too.
At Atterbury, IN were good if we have boots, helmet, and a PT belt around the sissy bar will work. I'll take the extra visibility...

I dont ride my bike on post anymore, I dont even register it on post so I dont have to have get the monthly inspection on it. The Army doesnt want you to have a bike, just as they discourage you owning firearms. Its unfortunate, the people who make these crazy garrison policies probably think they are doing great and wonderful things. But over regulation and micro-management just breeds resentment and makes for poor leaders. They are not allowed to exercise judgements and form their own opinions.
The only saving grace is the State of Washington, the great bastion of Socialism that it is, requires almos the same thing as the Army does to ride. I need to PCS back to Colorado.

Its like wearing the beret, its dumb, but no one is going to fix it. So alot of people just disregard it. "Its worth getting your butt chewed if the sun and rain are not in my eyes" is become more and more popular these days. Cant say I totally disagree.
Went thru all this when I was in back in the 80's. Price you pay for being able to play. Only time when I got in trouble riding on the bike on base was when I went thru the front gate of Camp Pendleton with a short helmet and an earing in my ear. Before you start it was a long leave and a really hot girl.
