It's funny, in a radius of about 10 mi around Bellville(tx) everybody waves, we're neighbors, bikers or cagers even truckers. Get out of that area (mostly German ancestry) and into the Slavic surrounds and nobody waves. Always found that strange.
In the little town my family originated in Central Illinois it was a regular sport to sit on the porch and wave at all the traffic(2 or 3 cars/trucks or Tractors per hour). It was also a predominately German area. Don't know what it all means, just found it interesting.

Key-riste, NOW I find out you're a "German", too? 100%er here.
Ya, grew up in a German area in SoDak, my Dad had a certain "index" finger wave. When I asked him who was that, he'd say he didn't know. "Well, why did you wave then, Dad?" "Just being sociable" Always the end of that conversation, and bet we had it 100's of times, and he never once got bored or upset with it. Makes me smile, now, thinking about it. THANKS, DeJa.
I was riding out of the neighborhood the other day.As I'm passing this elderly lady holding a young child, she made the kid wave. Maybe a future rider. At least she didn't have the kid flip me off. Dan
Well, made it back from Daytona a couple days ago and my arm feels great!! All the bikes there and not once did I see anyone trying to wave their arms off. Once I got home and rode around a little though it all started again. Weather sucked while in Daytona but it was just OK this year. Best part was I got to visit my mother on her 80th birthday. Nothing better than mom`s home cooking.
Ya got that rite bout moms home cookin....Congrats on the visit..
Within about 100 miles of Sturgis you see little or no waving - WAY too many bikes to try and wave at anyone. It would be absurd to try and do so. I'm sure with any big Rally it's similar. As you get further away from it and into more normal circumstances you'll start seeing some waves again.
I wave in Daytona for fun. Count the number that wave and dont wave back for 5 minutes. Even at stop signs and mostly at the chopper guys they think they are soooo cool ona bike some of them cant even tell you where the battery is. Try it it is fun.
