Default Do you run red lights or is there a trick to tripping the light??

I was wondering if there was a trick to tripping the street lights so they know you are there? A lot of times I find myself sitting at a light trying to roll back and forth and nothing happens so I just run the light. Any help would be appreciated!

There are a number of tricks I've read including putting your kickstand down, to pulling up to the light in line with the "loop" burried below the pavement.

I've had no luck with these methods (that I'm able to tell).

There are also a few products sold that claim to help. I have no experience with these products so I can not comment on their ability to change a light.

In WI, a law was passed in the last year or so that allows a rider to blow a red light when traffic is clear after waiting a minimum of 45 seconds. I've taken advantage of this a number of times.

i have seen places selling devices that you attach to the bottom of your bike that are supposed to help trip the sensors, but i have no idea if they work or not

Several devices on the market to help with that. I have never had any problem but evidently it is there or the devices would not be out there. Hard to believe a 700 lb. bike will trigger the lights. Try your dealer.

Depends on the time (daylight or night), day (Monday vs. Fri/sat night)

any time usually very early in the morning or late at night, Ive run into that problem at certain lights... if your not going miles out of the way and can make a right and then flip a U'ie i would do that... however i have run the lights. My rule is two cycles, then make sure its clear and GO quickly and don't look back!

if you do get pulled over... 1 hope you were not drinking, and 2 don't be a douche bag.

Ive waited at lights with 2 bikes on the loops... tried the kickstand thing... no workie, as far as the products on the market... not proven to work in my opinion just be safe about it and you should be ok

I can't offer any help beyond what I have already seen here. I wait for the light to cycle twice with me moving all over the trip. If it doesn't change by then. I take a right on red or just run the light. I will not buy or add something to my bike that might work. No good solutions to a stupid problem.

I never have that problem, but then again, I keep a Peacekeeper in my left boot. just kidding, but I wonder if it would work?

In Washington, it is OK to proceed thru a light, with no traffic, it is safe to do so, and the light has cycled thru two times. I was told this by our saftey officer who is a motorcycle instructor.

I bought something called a "Green Light Trigger" its a strong earth magnet, and it disrupts the magnetic field of the sensor in the street. Its about the size of a domino, maybe a little biggerand you tye or tape it on to the bottom of the frame. My brother got one also, and we went to the industrial park late one Sunday night, when there was no traffic and typically we get stuck until someone comes behind us, or we blow the light. The light changed within 30 seconds or so and we tried a few more and while it doesn't work perfectly, it seems to work very well. They have a standard and high powered model, and I bought the high powered model- I just checked and the high powered model is $24.95 and the link where I bought it is below. The harley dealer had something similar, but it was thin like a pencil lead and I just didn't trust it from the look, but it probably works just as well. I've also read that if you buy a strong earth magnet, like some of the childrens toys for a couple bucks, they work as well - but you need to insulate it from the frame so the magnetic field is directed downwards and not into the frameas sticking to it. I saw walgreens had a pair of strong magnets for $3.99 used as a toy, and I bet they would work good. If you use a regular magnet you need to insulate it or it will rub and scratch the frame also.

I had a 883 Sportster and my brother had a 2004 Fatboy - both bikes were causing us to get stuck at a few stop lights. I bought a 2007 Fatboy, and for some reason I haven't gotten stuck in any red lights with this bike, and I have never put a magnet on it. I think the 96" engine must have more metal or mass or something - maybe its even luck! On the sportster the few times it didn't work well, I rolled the bike back and forth and it almost always picked up with that. Sometimes I saw the sensors in the street, and I knew where the magnet was on the bottom of the frame, and I had to scoot the bike over a foot or so to get under the sensor also.

There is a couple of web sites (do a search) that show you how to make the Green Light Trigger, it's nothing but a bunch of strong button magnets, I made one and enclosed all the magnets in a shotgun shell and tied it to the frame out of site seems to work about 75% of the time.
