Hey there LadyGlide,
Nona and I will be planning our trip to Ketchikan shortly. Scott (our son) is on patrol in the Bearing Sea right now, he'll be at sea until the end of April, so we're looking at a trip in May. I doubt we'll get out of the Southern Tip of the state on this trip - spending time with Scott, Angel (his wife) and Duncan (grandson) is the priority.
We are looking forward to the trip.
I think i plan some kind of trip outta here at least once a week, (Juneau, AK) but like you say, it takes a week to get to the fun and a week to get back! So at the least its a minimum 3-weeker, and ol' stinjo (the boss) dont pay me if i aint workin. So.....when i take my vacation this year it will involve Alaska airlines and a rental car to get where the fun is at and ill have to settle for ridin strange women!

I do hope you enjoy your visit, and a short list of must-haves should include
bug dope (lots of it)
rain gear (head to toe)
camera (lots o' film/memory) - aside from family, you will never quite imagine the numbers of Bald Eagles in that area, and other wild life too!
Alaska is on my list of places to see. I doubt I could talk the wife into riding on the back of my bike all the way there, so when we do go it will probably be pulling our fifth wheel.
yea, one day I will have the time to ride up there. would be a great trip, but sadly its just so damned far!
I know what ya mean, I'm still plannin' my trip "outside".
I do know of several cool options for the trip, and have done it once (as an adult) in my cage.
However, more than $$, time is an issue. To ride out, takes about a week, ane then one week back, add in your adventure time inbetween, and you need at least a month to really make the ride out worth it, IMHO .
Also in my case, still having 2 youngin's still under 18, I require a chase veh., pitstops for leg stretchin' time for the kids, to keep things rollin' smoothly.
soooooo, it will be awhile before it can realisticly happen for us.
If you leave Anchorage on Saturday morning you can be in Billings Montana the following Wednesday night. If you can handle longer days in the saddle you could make it on Tuesday night. So far the best I have done is five days from Sturgis to home. Last day was 750 miles from Whitehorse Yukon to Anchorage. My butt was draggin' after that one.
Folks got to remember that this ain't no interstate or nicely paved blacktop.
