I'm one of the lucky few. I bought my 1200 C about two years ago and within the first year of owning it I did 14 small appearance mods. Within the past year I've only done one (cast front wheel). The last 5 or 6 times I've been to the dealership I can't find anything to throw any money at. As I said above, I'm one of the lucky few!!!!!
At least for me, there's probably a little bit of my soul tied up in my bike. I could care less about cars-I'm driving the same Chevy SUV I bought in 2001 and have done nothing except maintenance. I plan to keep driving it and don't even look at new model cars, etc. My other sport is flyfishing, and I haven't bought a new rod or reel in 3 years. I buy just what I need. I make my own flies so the cost here is minimal except the airfares to travel out west once a year with my buddies.
My bike is somehow different and I don't know why really. It isn't really the image-I don't usually wear Harley shirts, hats, etc.I don't hang out in biker bars, etc. I look atmy bikelike a work of art-sort of like a canvas that I am painting.
I agree completely that it's about the ride! I just like to ride on something I've created I guess.
Well, you could always wait a bit and get a late model used bike that includesthe more expensive mods. They are out there, as you can see from the above. Lots of Stage 1 and 2, etc. bikes out there with a ton of chrome. Then just add a few touches of your own...
I'd like to think it will end at some point. I still have a handful of functional mods I'd like to do. When I am done with that, I really cannot think of anything major I will do. Maybe if I see a small piece here, or a small piece there it is possible. But I dunno, I am pretty close to what I want.
I think that point I'd start looking at the next blank canvas -- the next model to build up my stable.
