I was in a bar a few days ago and a guy rode up on a Harley and he was completely covered in leather (boots, chaps, jacket, and gloves). He was also wearing a full-face helmet. A few of the bar patrons, whom I assume knew this guy, started joking around and giving him crap about wearing “assless chaps” and a full-face helmet. My guess is the guys who were dishing out the crap are the tank-top and no helmet type of riders. The guy wearing the leather stated that he’s been riding for over 25 years. He made the comment “I don’t dress for the ride, I dress for the crash”. He said he was confident in his riding abilities but he is concerned about the drivers’ abilities in the cars around him on the road.
So what are everyones opinions on leather pants/chaps, leather gloves etc. Do you wear leather every time you ride? Do you only wear it when it’s cold? Do you wear leather but don’t wear a helmet? Do you wear leather for the safety aspect or just because you like how it looks? Do you like to give people crap in bars for wearing leather?
I wear Dickies pants, Skateboard shoes, Tshirt or flannel in cold weather, And always wear a bandanna over my face. I see guys wear so much leather they look like a walking leather catalog but thats their thing and none of my business. Wear what you like, we are for the most part all different.
I wear jeans, boots, gloves to stay warm if necessary; leather jacket most of the time unless it's really warm...and I don't give people anything for what they wear; wear what you want
I wear leather gloves and boots. Leather coat if it's cold. Not sure if I can do the chaps thing. Might get some leather pants for the winter. Maybe the leather thong like beavis said to keep my little guy warm.
I wear leather (chaps and jacket) every time I leave town and go down the raod. I bought my bike in the fall so it's been cool at best every time I ride. So I wear it for the cold if I'm making a run somewhere. No idea what I'll do this summer when it's warm never had to deal with being hot on the bike! I tired a half helmet also but it feels like someone is behind me tryign to rip it off my head! Neck pain in about 10 miles. Also I wear face protection and gloves but again that is due to cold weather and being to stuborn to take the car!

It's a choice just like the helmet.
Not all leather jackets are warm, some are comfortable in warmer weather.
Also the right jacket can reduce fatigue.
I have leather jackets, chaps, gloves and boots. What I wear changes depending on how I feel and what I'm doing throughout the day.
The Jacket and boots are about the only leather I ever keep on when I walk away from the bike.
