Ok so I made a mistake I think. Let me explain. Newbie to the Harley ownership and chromelast year. Winters here in NH can be tough as I don't have a garage and built a shed for the bike. Over the winter a few times I added some chrome and accesories to the bike. When I was in the shed from time to time I had a heater running while out there and the bike would build up some condensation. I would wipe it with a soft towel and leave a fan on to move the air around for a few hrs. The shed did not stay heated all the time only when I was out in it working on the bike.
Prior to putting it away I went to the dealer and asked about using Harley Preserve.( http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US )Parts guy wasn't really familiar with anyone using it but since it won't hurt the paint he said he couldn't see how it would hurt the chrome or metal parts either. Basically wipes that you just wipe on and let dry.So I used it after the last bath of the year, prior to putting it in the shed. I noticed today what looks like hard water spots on the chrome. If I take a cloth and rub it seems to go away. I am hoping the weather cooperates so I can roll it out of the shed either tommorrow or Sunday to give it a bath and polish the chrome. I have Mothers Chrome polish and some top brite metal polish. Should I just jump from the bridge now or is it salvageable.
Any suggestions or anyone have anything similar happen. Might try the polishing ball for the drill to help in the process.
Well, if it will rub off with a rag, it should polish up with chrome polish, don't you think?
I can't say for sure, but you might reconsider the idea of heating and cooling that shed. Heating causes evaporation and cooling causes condensation. Maybe someone else here knows better...
Condensation is bad. It comes in your case, from lack of a vapor barrier, and a drastic change in temp.
Ever observe an old iron vise actually sweat? Anyhoo I'll bet no harm done. Just give her a good cleaning and polish.Be sure tobegin looking for proper temp controlledstorage for your scoot.
It wont take too many Winters to start showing serious wear.

Just hopeing it isn't anything with the Harley Preserve. I looked at the chrome pieces I added and they don't have the spotting like the pieces that I used the preserve on. Next season the heat will not be going on at all out there. I will have to make any mods either prior to or after winter storage.
I would use chrome polish as a last resort. Maybe I'm a little to paranoid but I think of chrome polish as an abrasive and I wouldn't want to use it unless absolutely necessary. I could be way off but I think I would try Windex first. Just my thoughts.
