He has the heart of a warrior, my father in- law was the same way. Let him be until HE makes the decision. Just keep an eye out for him. If he feels pressured to do something he doesn't want he will be miserable. He will knowm when the time is right. And if he keeps fighting until the end, the he is truly a warrior. My father in-law went through open heart surgery, never quite recovered, and never gave up. I like his grit. Maybe start calling him "The Duke"
Why do you feel it's your job?
He knows. He knows he's not what he used to be.
He's trying to live. Not sit in a diaper eating pablum.
If you want to go faster, do it.
He was probably riding when you were a twinkle in your dads eyes. Maybe before that.

I want to help because he's family, a long time friend and our neighbor. Wouldn't you want to help your friends if they were in this situation ? I'm sure his boys aren't aware of the problem and they don't care too much about anything but theirself. I'm not going to snitch him out to his wife and cause more grief for him.

Yes, he is a warrior. He was a pilot in Korea and has the Purple Heart. His background makes his pride even stronger and I have a lot of respect for that. If he ends up running off the road and getting hurt though, I'll never forgive myself if I keep quiet and let him go.

What old guys like me need is a Viagra for riding - Rideagra? I think the best thing you can do for him is to suggest exercise. If he is losing his coordination, the best thing to do is get him on a tread mill. Once he gets past holding on (no hands), his balance and control will come back. He'll be surprised with just what a couple of weeks can do.
