Default My bike vs. small car, not a wreck.

Last week my Son damaged the front end(not body work, but struts and tie rods) on his Nissan Sentra. So he took my truck back to college and I had to have his car repaired. After I got it back I drove it for about 4 days until we could swap back. One thing I learned was that this thing is a "R" model and really hauls, but I digress.

I pretty much drive the speed limits all the time, seldom 10 over unless on interstate. What I noticed was so many people tailgateing, pulling out or wanting to pull out in front of me. So much so that I even had the speedo checked. It was good. In comparison, I almost never have these problems when I'm on my Ultra, especially the tailgateing. It happened so much I was more paranoid driving this thing than I am on my bike.

Thinking back, I don't think it was my perception of things, it was really happening.

Do those of you that drive small cars have this happen to you, as compared to when riding your bike?
Just courious.

I know I was sure glad to get my raggedy truck back.

I drive a chevy colorado, and by usual standards I don't consider it small. but the same goobers that will pull out in front of my road king will pull out in front of the colorado. like with the bike, I ride with my headlights and fog lights on all the time day or night. its not like they can't see me coming.

i used to drive a 2000 miata. maybe that's why i don't freak as bad as I should on the bike. its like other people are daring you to go ahead and terminate the stupid. they just don't believe you'll hit them, no matter what.

tailgaters bother me on the bike because i find myself always watching them. they distract me until i just start slowing down.

take care in the little cage...
they are out to get you...

I don't think they did it more to you in a little car. Perhaps because you had to occupy the full lane with said car it made you feel trapped in situations you'd have an easier out with on the bike.

I get the same crap happening to me when I'm in my metallic green Chevy Silverado with lights burning. People just don't care. When it happen on the bike I am looking for it more and have *hopefully* already planned out my escape.

Agressive driving seems to be the norm these days.

I agree with this. I too fell smothered when driving my small car; a 94 Geo Prizm.

Doesn't matter what you're driving or riding - idiots will be just that, don't set your expectations too high of the general population, and you won't be disappointed as frequently.

I don;t know about small cars but I have not had a single ride on my bike this year where I have not had to lock up the rear tire AT LEAST once because someone did or attempted / 3/4 pulled out in front of me. It has been crazy thus far!

When I'm on my Harley, I get tailgated and sometimes cut off.

When I'm in my Chevy Avalanche, everyone wants to pass me

When I'm in my '75 Camaro, I get saluted and people give me plenty of clearance and lots of waves.

We got cut off and pulled out in front of on the bikes, we get cut off and pulled out in front of in our Hummer, (also had a F250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X4 with a 10" lift)It doesn't make a differance. I don't want to lump all people in one catagory, but most drivers out there are to busy texting, talking on the cell phone, and various other distractions. We all need to be very careful and always drive defensively. My .02, I will now climb back in my hole...lol

When not riding my bike I am usually drivin my 88 Mercedes 190D (Diesel), the 190 was known as a "Baby Benz". Prolly not a lot bigger than your Nissan. I have not really noticed any difference in how others drive if I am on my bike or my car.
The Benzo Diesel has the acceleration of a golf cart off the line, but it cruises easily at 100+ on the hi-way. I know I typically travel faster on my bike, so this may be a factor.
One thing I have noticed over the past few months is that people seem to be driving slower! Maybe fuel prices are finally making folks think twice about runnin at 80!
