The guy who nearly killed me didn't even get a ticket. The girl who killed my friend Steve got a ticket for running a stop sign.

Biker/Motorcyclists lives come cheap in all States.
On July 3rd 1988 two of my friends on their Goldwing
and my wife and I on our Goldwing were hit head on
by a (6 time DWI) DRUNK DRIVER going 117MPH in
his Pick Up truck. Our two friends died instantly at the
scene (I had to tell their 2 kids their Mom & Dad were
never coming home again) My wife died about one
year later due to the wreck.
At the crash site the Police,Fire men and EMT's went
straight to what was left of the Pick Up truck and never
gave my wife, myself or our friends a second look till
they had the DRUNK DRIVER out of the truck [:@]
Then the lawyers for the DRUNK DRIVER made all of
our lives a living hell after the wreck for months! [&o]
He's back out on the road with a hand slap!! [:@]
A 6 time DWI driver that has killed 3 people has more
rights then anyone on a motorcycle!!
This is just sick" and totally wrong (but true facts) [:'(]
This was in IL. so it happens everywhere. I could
tell you more cases just like this I've seen in over
40 years and about 2 million miles of riding
motorcycles, but I think we all know theres more
of these stories without me posting more..
[&o]sometimes I'm really surprised that there isn't more vigilantism when **** like this happens and the person responsible gets next to nothing for a punishment
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
However Ialso have seen the other side of the story, as my own mother recently hit and killed a rider. She was not speeding, talking on a cell phone, eating or any other thing to distract her. She simply did not see the motorcycle at all. The typical lookinga motorcycle approaching and it not registering inthe mind as a vehicle (we have all did that at least once). She was driving very slowly crossing two lanes of traffic and she did not see the rider and the rider did not see her, he applied his brakes 20 feet before he hit the side of her van, was not wearing a helmet and drove his head into her van. She is definetlyhas nothingagainst motorcycle riders, she simply is 85 years old, drove for 65 years without an accident and even rode home from the accident site on the back of my buddy's bike. It was just that, an accident. The family of the rider visited her a few days after the accident and assured her that they had no ill feelings toward her at all and understood that she was a sweet old lady that would neverhurt anyone on purpose. She has given up driving since the accident and now has to live with the fact that she took another's life for the rest of her life. She can not sleep at night and has nightmares. The investigation and sentencing in this case has not been completed yet so I can't say what they will do to her, but what would stiff laws that would put her away for the rest of her life do?
The reason I tell this story is to say that stiff laws that put everyone away withoutflexibilty would be usless and sometimes cruel punishment. I do agree that in cases where there is criminal neglect on the part of the driver who kills or injures a rider that by all means lock them up for a long time, but in cases of an outright accident a smaller fine and suspend their license until they can show ability to pass a driver's license exam and maybe a defensive driver's course to educate them and ensure that they are not an unsafe driver, is enough.
I mean, give me a break, if the rider of the cycle was at fault and the drive of the car died we would not be discussing it here at all, would we? We all know some riders are dangerous on the road and do cause accidents also, just usually the rider dies , not the driver of the cage.
I agree that stiffer laws need to be on a case
by case bases as all are not caused by ignorant
azz holes like the one that killed my friends and
my wife.
BUT" I disagree with the word accident, there is
only wrecks caused by people not paying 100%
attention at some point like their suppose to be
while driving/riding.
The word accident is a word the news media came
up with so people would become numb to the fact
they are killing each other with cars!!
Call them wrecks/crashs and bring death to the
for front and people could never stand to turn on
the radio or TV or read a news paper. They need
to sugar coat death and stupidity so they call it
an accident so they can keep the money coming
in...[:'(]
