Got it - too much freeplay in the clutch cable. I guess cable stretches out after breaking in from when I adjusted it on the install. Back in business; now I don't have to shut the bike off to dig out my id at the gate at work. Thanks for all the advice.

Is this from a dead stop or why rolling along? sometimes rocking it back and forth ever so slightly if you are at a dead stop makes the magic happen. I know my sportster and my pan were notorious for that.

It was from either stop or while rolling, but problem is fixed with a little cable adjustment I just did.

My guess is clutch adjustment. I had a reduced effort clutch put in over the winter and I am now having a hell of a time with neutral. Never had problems. I am starting there first.
