Tying down a harley?
Thx for the awsome advice!! I would jsut ride her home but I havent been on a bike of any sorts for over 10 years (raced off road) and never a road bike. I did a 2 day safety class and got certified but figured I should get some hours under my belt driving around the neighborhood and such before running thru downtown Phoenix for my own safety and others. I did take her for a test drive and it felt completely normal but just in case ya know?
While you did race off road, that really doesn't mean a lot when It comes to riding on the street. Especially somewhere like downtown Phoenix. I used to desert race 30 years ago, and regularly rode street bikes before and since then. While you are probably far more advanced in operating a motorcycle then the typical newbie that merely completes a course and receives a motorcycle license, you really don't understand the dynamics of riding on the street. It is something that must be experienced to understand.
I don't know your size, riding style, or ability but it might be a good idea to get some experience on a smaller street bike before attempting to navigate a Harley in real heavy traffic. You will find that while your Harley may have more actual power then a YZ250, it also doesn't have anywhere near the manuverability. And even more important, when you raced off road most everyone was going in the same general direction. On the street you will find that isn't the case at all.
