I went for my first ride EVER today. I'll tell you what, I'm freakin hooked. I was scared to death when I bought my bike, but then I took the MSF course and it knocked all the scared right out of me. It was a nice 70 degrees with the sun out when I went to work, but when I came home it was about 56 with no sun whatsoever. That was probably the coldest thing I've ever experienced in my life, but I still had a great big ol stupid grin on my face. Had a close call with someone pulling in from a side street on my left, lets just say if I hadn't got on the throttle she would've hit me. I even got my first nod, from a guy on a sportbike!! That surprised me, I guess there really are folks out there that don't care what you're riding as long as you're riding (that's been my theory). Either way I'll quit typing now, can't wait to go back out again cuz that was fuuuuuuuuuuunnn
Sounds to me like you had a good time. Just remember "ride your ride" dont get all caught up in keeping up with the guy in front of you and crap like that. Also keep in mind that your front brake is your best friend, and dont be afraid to use it when needed. Be sure to always keep aware of EXACTLY whats around you at ALL TIMES.....ride the hell out of your mirrors, and watch out for the "left turn in front of you" that the cage will make. Remember they cant judge your speed very well, so always, always be ready to react to the as$ hole in the Buick.
Congrats and heed the words of biz44. When I first started riding I would go out early Sunday mornings and practice. Low traffic volume in Bean town. That was close to 20 years ago. I still get that feeling of excitment when I take my bike out today. Have fun and be safe.
I learnt to ride when I was a kid growing up on a farm. One thing you cant be taught is experience. The longer you do it, the better you get. Take care and love the ride.
