Default REMEMBER! Take nothing for granted

Had a fantastic ride today through the Catskills, but my riding buddy had a very close call which is worth bringing to your attention. Approaching an intersection, a car coming in the opposite direction was waiting to turn left after my friend cleared the intersection. A car behind that car decided he didn't want to wait, so he started a left turn and came from behind the waiting car. Fortunately halfway into my friend's lane the jerk stopped and narrowly missed my friend. Stay safe. Take nothing for granted.

I think I'd stopped, got off my bike and did a mess of swearing at that driver. Pathetic.

Glad he's okay. I ride like I'm invisible. Riding through Myrtle Beacheveryday will expose you to almost every possible form of human stupidity when it comes to operating a motor vehicle. You wouldn't believe some of the absolutely stupid crap I see every day. 14 million people come through here a year. 13.9 million of them don't have a clue where they are going or what the hell they are doing. If you can ride here, you can ride almost anywhere (from a defensive riding standpoint). Not to mention when everyone gets here for bike week.

That would sure make you pucker. I know in general when approaching a left-turner I'm cringing, waiting for the dumb-*** to make the left AFTER waiting til I get a little closer first.
