Default Wife want's a Deluxe..

...so bad she can taste it..so,what do I do? She hasen't riden street at all, been my backrest for many mile's.she has rode dirt. She took the MSF passed without a problem, already got the licence and say's she's ready(proud of her).We been lookin just havent pulled the trigger yet.Question for you guy's and gal's are we jumping the gun on the Deluxe? Should I try to talk her into something else for awhile first? She say's "NOTHING will do but the Deluxe".I think she can handle it...Advice appreciated from all...especially from all you lady Deluxe rider's!

why shouldnt she have one? they have a low center of gravity, ride like a caddy and are the HD most bought by women. I think she knows what she wants and has good taste

(in bikes anyway)

going to disagree with the previous two posts. I think all new riders should start out with something smaller and more managable until they get a few miles under their belt. Yeah, it means buying a bike that all you're gonna do is turn around and re-sell. Low center of gravity or not, that's still a lot of weight to be handling.

Wife wanted a Harley, no ifs, ands, buts, about it. We bought her a 1200L Sportster and she rode it a year. I will be first to tell you she never gave up. She made all the normal mistakes a new rider makes, I bit my tongue & prayed more times than I care to admit to her, but we made it thru it all. She wanted a bigger bike and so this year she/we bought her 08 Heritage, she was torn between the Deluxe and Heritage. Could have gotten what ever she wanted. She sit on this Heritage and said this it, I want this one. I can not tell you after her first ride, she said why did I not do this sooner. She is in awe of how this Heritage handles, it is just the right bike for her. Does she regret her Sportster, NO! I overheard her tell her brother that her first year on the Sportster got her road ready and what to expect with group rides, the roads, the cages, everything. She also told him that the Heritage is heavier, but it is so much easier to ride, in fact she is riding like she has been riding for years. The only trouble and it is very little is backing it up and if there is any bump or uneven pavement, it takes her a heave to get it in there, but she does do it. I have had to help just a couple times, and it was because it was her first day and didn't want to risk dropping it.

Have her take one for a test ride. Can't hurt, might help.

The bike is going to get dropped, so you may want to buy a used one as cheap as you can get it.

Well, I can say for myself...never rode before I took the MSF course... 3 days later I passed the DMV test and a week later did a test ride on a Deluxe.... 2 weeks after that I was riding my own!! Great bike....a year and half and almost 14k miles later.... so if she can already ride....have her do a test ride...I'm sure she'll love it.

At age 56, standing 5'2", and 130 lbs...Wife took the MSF. She had never ridden anything before that time. The day she passed the course, she came home to her new Deluxe. 2 years, and 11K miles later..that bike has never been dropped, she rides well, and she is having a ball.

Friends started on the Sportsters...HATED them due to feeling top heavy. they traded for softails in under a year...thats a big financial hit to take..

Get her the Deluxe..the balance on that bike is so good, and its easy to ride.

Ridley! Can't say enough about those bikes, especially for a new rider, most especially for a new female rider.

And I just happen to have a used one for sale...

Seriously though, if she's dead-set on a Deluxe, if you can afford it and find one, try a weekend rental for her. Do some serious riding in town, on the highway, everywhere. Just be sure to get all the insurance, too.
