Ok, dont make to much fun of me but I have a question that may seem dumb to most.
I have been riding dirtbikes since I was a kid and now I have my firt Harley which I absolutely love but I have a question about the shifter on some bikes. I have always rode motorcycles with the basic shifter pedal, but I am now noticing motorcycles with a shifter that looks like it has a part for your heel or back part to it.
My question is, how does it operate?
Normal shifting is 1 down & 4-5 Up....I'm lost and feel stupid
You mean a heel/toe shifter? The pattern is the same, 1 down, the rest up, but you have the option of using your heel to up shift instead if lifting your toe. Hope this helps.
On your Sportster, you pull up on your toe to upshift, press down with it to downshift.
On the heel and toe shifters, to upshift either pull up with your toe or push "down" with your heel. It does the same thing. Downshifting is the same as what you have.
No question goes unanswered (stupid or not). You may get some really stupid answers though.
No more grabbing the rear fender to lift it on a milk crate. The weight takes some getting used to. I rode off road for 35 years it's also my first Harley
