Don’t know if this is the right place for this question, and if not im sure the mods will switch it. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket intercoms for rider to passenger helmets? Want to be able to talk to my son on long rides, instead of him slapping me upside my head to get my attention.
They work great, I ride mostly with my brother, he’s on a Honda and he’s a little hard of hearing so he adjusts his system to meet those needs and all is cool. When he rides two up it’s with his wife and all is good. Go for it…
Sorry, I went with the Nolan setup. Check into the J&M stuff,(www.jmcorp.com) I’m sure they have something that will work for you but shop around.
I have been looking at the one from fire fox that has the throat mics and earbuds and also you can hook up a two way and talk with anyone else that has a two way.
I recently A) took a 750+ trip and B) purchased J&M Corp helmets with the helmet speakers/mic for the trip. They worked great. My wife could hear me but I couldn't hear her (seems like the consol pod needs repairing). Also being on an Ultra it has the CB which allowed me to maintain communications with the 4 wheeler that was driving with us and had a portable had held CB. Having themic'd helmets were awsome. Being with a sidecar I could say "lean" to my wife when ever we banked a corner thereby making the ride much more user freindly and safer.
Take a look here: www.autocomamerica.com
I got the Easi-Plus unit. Works great. The wife and I can have a normal conversation without having to shout like we were riding in a WW1 fighter plane. The head sets and microphones are a bit of a pain to install in the helmet, but if you're handy and mechanically inclined it is really no big deal. We've traveled thousands of miles together with this little battery powered unit and are quite pleased with it. The earphones are stereo quality and we only have to speak up if conditions are very noisey, such as high winds, or if we are flanked by tractor trailer rigs. Don't go with a really cheap unit like Nady. A total waste of time and money. There are plenty of good quality intercom units out there, but I think AutoCom is the best for the money.
