Saturday was our chapter fund ride. 10 minutes b4 we took off there was a accident, a 79 y.o. man in a Taurus took a left in front of a 51 y.o. on a bike ( car was turning left on a yellow, the bike had green) It made some people re-think about the ride , we had 30-50 back out. long story made short . A 51 year old male will not be going home to his family.
I urge everyone to call their State Leg. and tell them that you want stiffer penalties for failure to yeild.

It is always the "Left turner". I prefer to ride highways because atleast noone is going to come accross your path. Not sure whypeople would back out of the ride. I thought we all know motorcycles are dangous and riders do get killed. I guess this was news to the people that backed out.
I am glad my town has mostly turn lane lights with a delayed green. I feel bad for the guys family. I don't think it would helped this guy, but we all have to remember to drive defensively especially when approaching intersections.
Dont ever like to see anyone hurt or killed.... But IMHO you have to go on... I think most bikers would want it that way
We all feel for people... Years back we lost a rider before a ride
we dedicated the ride to him and went on the ride... A friend of mine spoke to his mom at the funeral and she said he would have wanted the ride to go on, We all know the risks of riding we can only do so much to be defensive riders... If you drop out you need to rethink being on a bike!

Having a good friend die right in front of you can suck some of the fun out of the day.
Not only stiffer penalties, but actual driving exam requirements past a certain age... not trying to be a dick, but many older folks should NOT be driving in their condition (diminished response, sight, hearing etc...)... but if they renew their license within the required time... no retesting etc.... I can't tell you how many little old folks scare me into leaving a biscuit in my shorts whiles't riding near them and paying close attention to them.

I agree with you. I hate even hearing about this type of thing. My prayers are with the rider and family.
