I use windex or any other glass cleaner from time to time. Quick detailer from any auto parts store works great too. Eagle One or Mothers are two brands that come to mind.
There is a product, dont remember the name, buy from hd dealer, minimal effort, works good, lasts long time. yes there is a difference when you shine it, it is a good feeling.
Unless you do your own chroming and take special care to plate the back of a part as good as the front or "face" you will eventually have problems with peeling or corrosion, especially on steel parts. Tape off the face of the part with painter's tape and scuff, prime and paint the back. Standard cleaning with a soft cloth on the rest of the chrome will keep it looking nice.

I like using "Never Dull" comes in a blue can, I got mine at the HD dealer. It is somewhat like steel wool but alot softer. You rip a piece off rub and then it turns black with the dirt and then I use a micro towel from Costcoto get rid of the haze. Have used the Eagle one stuff afterwards to keep the shine up. Any good paste wax for the tank.
