With all the rumours and speculation about 09 H-D prices being 10-15% higher and radical new models coming out I just want to throw this out.Watched a guy on tv yesterday who stated that in 10 years or less CHINA will be using all the CURRENT production of oil in the world.Their demand for oil now means that the oil producing countries have no real incentive to lower prices. They are also driving up prices of home building supplies, aerospace metals, etc, etc.Only the wealthy will be able to justify A new bike if gas goes to say $10 a gal.Sounds like H-D needs to start building dealerships over there which will put them closer the factories who already supply a lot of their parts.
I read on the Drudge Report a couple of weeks back an article stating gas prices could hit $10 a gal by 2010 or 2011. China used to produce all the oil it consumed, but with the amount of growth over there, they're now sucking up more an more of it.
if everyone except emergency vechiles would not drive for any reason for 3 days in a row then gas would be at a surplus and prices would fall to what we wanted to pay. Everyone would have to be onboard with it all across the country.
Some of us are old enough to remember gas lines in the '70s, odd-even rationing on days based on your license plate number, etc.
Problem is, peoplehave a very short-term memory when it comes tothings like this. Not long aftergas prices and supply stabilized, we went right back to driving big gas guzzlers and forgot about trying to figure out how to get 75 mpg and preparing for the next crisis.Well...the next time is rapidly approaching and if we don't move quickly, a lot of folks are going to be SOL.
Our economy, and the world economy for that matter, can't support 10 dollar gas at the current time. The only way it can sustain it, is if inflation were to dramatically escalate to where income levels would be proportionate to something like were at now in income vs. energy prices. At this time, petroleum based energy supplies are 12% higher than they were last year. However, investors, with no place else to make a buck right now, are dumping tons of money in the petroleum futures market, and pushing the price past sane levels of supply vs. demand. There's a total disconnect in the supply vs. demand right now. Think of it as the dot com bubble of the 90s except now it's energy. Unless there's a big wrench thrown into the supply line somewhere, the oil futures market will drop like a rock as soon as investors can find some other playground to play in.
I believe humanity's only hope at this time is hydrogen fuel. We need to find an easy effective way to seperate the hydrogen out of water and capture it for combustion. So all you clever back yard scientists, get busy. A fortune awaits the person who can accomplish this. For all I know, somebody already has a way to do this, but just needs to take it to a level that the masses can take advantage.

WISH it would work. However, whether its one day or three, two companies or all of them, its notgoing to do anything to change things. Check this out... http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp
We can't control the consumption of other countries, and someone would be more than willing to step in and take up the slack if we suddenly stopped buying oil.
I'm concerned about the "rumor" that there should be a tax on the oil companies profits... that's going to just filter down to the rest of us poor saps who depend on our vehicles to get us to and from work.
Sure wish I had a good answer to this one, but it seems like there really IS NO good answer.
