ACC is about as small and DOT legal as its gonna get. No, they DO NOT offer a DOT German...yet anyway. I really like the way the polo DOT looks.
But you should know that the NON DOT is only non DOT because it failed a spear test by half an inch. Unless you plan on following spear delivery trucks, ACC heltmets (including non DOT Germans) are for you.
what about scooping out some of the foam, would it be possible to do it and be comfortable. Yes, I know this could alter it from being DOT but it already has the rating and the script on it. What would be a good way of doing it and still look decent inside. I think it sits too high up on the head. (the one in post 8)
What I wear depends upon the weather. Less than 70 it's a FF. Above 70 it's a half helmet. Rode without a helmet in IL, but the wind brustling against my head made it itch like crazy.
If you find one, let me know. I ordered one from Leatherup.com last week that promised to fit the bill. Opened the box, tried the helmet on, put it back in the box and returned it. If I can't find a dot half helmet that doesn't give the 'mushroom' look, I'll just stick to my full face.
More worries about how we look? Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I am getting a topless helment to go with my heated fingerless gloves. Then I can adjust the GPS,dvd player, heated cup holder and gel filled seat cushion.
Gotta do your thing, follow your instincts and and worry less about what others think.
I have an open face that feels like its being ripped off my head at speed as I hate windshields. The most comfortable lid I own is a Shoei XR1000 - I have a dark and clear visor with anti fog insert posts for the winter. For long rides it takes some beating - light, well vetilated and good visability. Forcity and towncruising I usemy Arai Freeway with sunglasses.
Gotta say though I like those German look helmets - but given my size and build I'd look like the fat one in Hogan's heroes!
