Default Quiet please!

OK here's the deal. I get a migraine every 8 to 10 days. I really like the sound of my 07 Ultra stock pipes but I been getting more migraines since I got the bike. After riding for an hour or so I can feel the headache coming on from the noise. Is there a way to make it more quiet? Would different baffles help? I'vebeen ridingfor 15 years and not had this problem before. I've been trying different ear plugs and it helps some. With the ear plugs itsounds like a thumping noise in my ears. I think the noise is caused by pressure.I'm sure some of this is from the wind. Some of you guys whowear plugs for work know the sound. It's like when you walk youhear that echo effect. This is the same only faster.

Hope this makes some sense. I really like this bike and plan to just keep trying to find the right answer. Anyone have this experience? Any suggestions?

Melatonin. Buy a bottle or two. It helps you to sleep. It's a natural chemical that your body doesn't produce as much of as you get older. For some reason not yet discovered it has stopped the migraines in many people that have started using it, me being one of them. I didn't even realize I wasn't getting migraines anymore until I read an article in one of the health magazines about it and put two and two together. You might be one of the fortunate ones that it works on. Try it, you'll at least sleep better.

I know I'm a new guy here but have you looked in to the boise noise cancelation head phones? They may make earplugs or buds. As a crewchief on a dragster I can tell you that they do work very well.

I hope this helps the cause....

I toosuffer from Migraines, so I feel your pain. I am no doctor, but I have had them for 25 years and I will be 40 withinthe week. I seriously believe that many things trigger migraines, but for me the most influencial is weather (frontal changes) and diet. Now, if you haveany change in either of these two items, then the rest of your triggers will bring on the migraine. For example, I can come home and have a beer or two or 5 any night, but if I dont eat consistantly or eat crap food, I willget a migraine before the second beer. The same with noise, salt, and MSG foods. I am not saying this is your case, but maybe the weather or some change in your diet is letting the noise trigger the migraines. I hate them believe me, but I would hate to see you not ride for fear of a migraine, when it may not be the root cause. If you are not ona preventative medicine, perhaps you should have a sit down with your Doctor or a specialist?? Good Luck.....

Hey guys, thanks for the come backs and the ideas. I have been using Melatonin for a couple of years. It does work for sleeping but not my migraines. The noise canceling ear plugs are something I will definitely look into. 07Eglider, I hear ya on the weather. Mine seem to happen more often when Low Systems move through. I kept a food diary for 11 months and didn't find anything for sure. But I know there can be a lot of triggers. And finally JBaker; I have two bulging discs in my neck and I think that contributes as well. I have tried about 18 different Meds to stop them; been to 3 Neulogists (sp) and tried lots of Chicropractors etc. I have found that Zomig (prescription) works but I try not to take it so I don't build up a tolerance. I do use it when I need to tho. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to offer ideas. Ride safe. John

Man, I feel for ya. I've never had 'em, but I've watched my 12 year-old son grow up with 'em...gets 'em so bad sometimes all he can do is hurl. The doc put him on a regimen of aspirin...not just when the pain was comin on...but a dailypreventative measure. Different people respond to different things, but that seemed to help him a good bit.

You didn't mention it, but, do you wear any kind of a helmet? Sometimes, helmets can cause migraines. Fit, noise, wind buffeting, etc.

Hey Danny, I always wear a helmet. I've got an HJC one with a good fit. I think the wind noise and the buffeting on some days is part of the problem.

TequilaJohn, Doc says I'm suppossed to stay away from aspirin. Used too much and now I have to rely on the Zomig.
