Hello all.....I am not sure if anyone can answer this and there have been no write-ups about it, so here goes....I own a Street Glide model which shares the same type outside air temperature gauge as the higher line Ultras etc. Anyway, has anyone experienced a mis-read on their outside/air temperature gauge? When it's 70 or 75 etc., it will read almost 85 to 90....today, I picked it up from storage and its about 38 degrees or so and the whole way home it read 60 to 65. Has this ever been an issue? Thanks in advance....
This has been discussed here quite often. Most of us feel as if the temperature gauge is useless and many folks put a compass or oil-temp gauge in that hole. The sensor for the unit is in the fairing and will give pretty decent readings when sitting in a garage but as soon as you get it outside and the sun beats on it the readings will be off by several degrees.
That should be link to help you fix it if ya like or you can think about what ya wanna replace it with - Seems like a stupid thing to me when you can just feel the outside temp but I know not everone agrees with that position - Bottom line is that it is a common problem and you can choose to fix/replace or ignore and it's all good
No expert but I would suspect it has to do with angle of magnetic lines of force - A compass is built to spec for specific regions - I would guess HD uses those that are set up for NA.
