Default Reverse Gear

I have started researching the HD reverse gear from Champion Side Cars. The price seems steep at #1395, plus 4-5 hours instalation, but when I consider the problems short legs cause in safely backing up, it doesn't seem quite so bad.

Does any one have, use or have a horror story about a reverse gear for a Harley?

I helped put one on my dad's 04 SE Electra Glide. He's 67 and short legged. It took a little time to install it and had to follow the directions that came with it. He say's that he likes it . He doesn't have to worry about where he parks and it helps on gravel or loose stone.

One of the dealers near me infered it wasn't designed for a solo application. Just side cars and trikes, but the web site says it is designed for solo applications? The implication was it was "too fast". Seems a little strange when you figure how fast you can go in first gear. I don't have problems controlling first going forward.

I have also heard about an electric reverse from another trike mfg. I will check that out. Thanks for the post.
