Hacked, Conversions and Trailering"Harley Sidecar, Conversion Trikes and Motorcycle Pull Behind Trailering Enthusiasts"
A forum for the discussion of your sidecar, Conversion Trike or Pull Behind Motorcycle Trailer.
I have been noticing all the Touring models are now touted as ready for a sidecar on the H-D website. The only thing I'm wondering is the ads for the motorcycles also say "reverse gear not available."
I thought a hack had to have reverse gear. ??/ Are you telling me the guys with the other makes with hacks do not have reverse gear? What about the trikes? Try pushing one of those gold wing deals out of a parking place? I don't think so.
I have a champion reverse on my trike. It's a mechanical reverse, was an easy install and works great. If you go to Champion sidecars site and check it out, see what bikes they fit. http://www.championsidecars.com/prod...Page=2&catID=5
OK that link don't work because Ebay is blocked. What I'm asking is H-D, who sells the hack does not sell a reverse gear - correct? They used to have reverse transmissions in factory Harleys.
OK - I found it through Google. Is there a lock out that keeps you from selecting one gear with the foot pedal and the reverse with the lever at the same time? That would be an interesting development.
i have the champion reverse and there is no lockout, just use common sense. or you could get a "baker" brand reverse, it has a lockout. it cost more and requires removing the tranny internals and pressing some new gears on. im waiting for spring delivery of my new hack, at 61 i cant imagine not having reverse.

Thanks for the details. I can't imagine not having reverse either.
No problems with my Tri Glide reverse. I use it all the time. I guess I could push the Trike but it's a lot easier with reverse. My brother had a hack for several years, he always wanted reverse but lived without it.
KRW - I hear you on that and that you like the electric reverse on the Tri Glide. I was wondering how the other Trikes and especially the side hacks got along without reverse because Harley does not offer it any more on the two wheelers.
I have reverse from harley on my o2 ultra/sidecar - according to the previous owner it was added to bike at the dealer when they were adding the tle sidecar - don't know if this is of help to you?
Harley use to offer a electric reverse option that was installed on the hack. Guess it either had problems or it was a option many were not willing to spend the money for.
I have the Champion reverse gear installed on my trike. I have only used about 10 times in the last 20 months of riding with it. Even though I dont use it much, for me its there when I needed and worth the money to have it to use
