This is my first bike with a fuel gauge. Actually its my first street bike... Anyway, I have had this bike for a month now and have about 700 miles on it. I don't think there has been one fill up where the gas gauge has acted normal from F to E. Sometimes, while I am riding, it just starts climbing back to the full mark. And you can see it move. It will stay there until the next time I ride. This morning, It was reading half a tank. I new I had more than that. When I got to work, it had climbed back to almost Full, where it should belong.

Are these gas gauges that inaccurate, or do I have a bad sensor of some sort?
Mine does that all the time - think about it - when its on the side stand its going to read different when its upright, which may be why when you ride it starts moving back towards full. \\; Mine seems to drop very quickly from full to somewhere between half and 3/4 full - stays there for a while and then reads 1/4 full for time and then is in the red and the light comes on. \\; If you want something a tad more accurate in terms of gas left then look at the Kuryakyn fuel guage for Dynas which is now programmable, i.e. you can set it for when you want the nearly empty light to come on.
Isn't it great to finally have a fuel gauge? And all those years you suffered without one. I keep up with fuel consumption by watching the odometer. My fuel gauge usually rides on empty for 2 days before I fill up.

I use my fuel guage as a guide. for the most part it does ok.. For a while it would hang up and then all of the sudden the needle would drop like it was catching. From what I understand, it was catching on a wire inside and the dealer had to bend a piece in the tank so that it would not catch. The bike was covered under the warranty at the time. So I rely more on the odometer for a more accurate reading and only use the guage as a guide. But when in doubt with a fuel injected bike, gas up! I never rely on the light that could burn out and with no reserve, that can get ugly! [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Yeah, the fuel gauges are crap. \\; I get about 200 miles a tank, and the first 100 it just hits the 3/4 mark. \\; Plus if you accelerate or slow down quickly (or at all really!) it fluctuates quite a bit. \\; I've watched it go from 1/2 to almost empty when accelerating on the onramps to the freeway! \\; I believe all the bikes made after 06 should have a low fuel indicator though (all fuel injected from 07 and on, even Sporties!), and that seems to be pretty accurate\\; maybe it's on a different sensor! \\;

Judge it based on the odometer or trip meter, and you'll be better off.
Mine is horrible too. My Street Bob is supposed to indicate low fuel with .9 gallons left in the tank, out of 4.8 gallons. So the first few times I have seen it come on, I go into gas searching mode and figure I have about 30-35 miles left to go. But each time, having filled up within 10 miles of the light coming on, I have only been able to get about 3.5 gallons in the tank. So it's actually coming on with about 1.5 gallons in the tank. I was afraid that I was actually getting crappy mileage until I saw it was the gauge and not me.
Another reason I don't like the gauge is because of the terrible viewing angle. From where I sit, I have to lean way up and look down into the gauge. I wish it was angled back some.

If you trust a Harley fuel gauge, you'll be walking down the side of the road before long.
