Default Demo ride notes

Kelly's Harley Davidson in Billerica, Mass. has a demo ride going on from yesteday to today so I went and took some bikes out for fun as I did in Laconia a couple of weeks ago. First bike to ride was the Rocker C. In a word, FUN! Very comfortable seating position, ergonmics were nice but the forward controls could have been back and in a little for my taste, ground those little peg bolts down unexpectedly at first then at will afterwards but you really gotta lay it over to do that. Power was good, quicker of course than my Ultra 'cuz it must weigh 500 lbs less (LOL). Rake angle while pretty far only seemed to matter during lower speed cornering. Not a distraction or safety issue by any means just a diiferent feeling to get used to. Suspension worked great soaking up every manner of bump, pothole and cracked pavement I could find. I intentionally aim for the worst spots on the road, this is a test ride after all and it's a given that any bike should handle ideal road conditions, well, ideally. I rode this solo but the silly seat was attached, didn't matter to me but I saw some other people use it and I gotta tell ya, if your lady weighs over 98 lbs, that seat is probably going to disappear "somewhere". Overall, a fun bike but not one I would choose as my primary ride at this point in my life but as a second scoot I would choose this bike over the Crossbones (which I also rode in Laconia and liked a lot). The second bike I rode was a Fatbob, another fun ride. Seating position was just a little to stretched out for me, lower back issues and all. Otherwise another fun ride. One thing I will say about this bike, I don't know if it was just this particular Fatbob or if they're all like this, it was LOUD! Sounded great to me but quite a difference from all the other bikes in the lineup. Not too noticeable when just putting around but when I got on it, it barked pretty good although not enough I think to get you in any trouble. This bike handled real well, the big front tire doing a nice job of rolling OVER most road imperfections but I did hit one good size pothole that I felt all the way to the top of my head. This wasn't the bike's fault, this was one of those Massachusetts famous frost-heave into gulley like road divots you hope to only hear about. Starting, stopping and overall handling very good, certainly a cool bike that looks good bone stock or kitted up. If I were to change one thing on this I would try some baby apes on it just for a little relief of being leaned just a little too far forward which also made me wonder what the twin healamp setup would look like on the Streetbob. Last bike of the day was a Road Glide, took this out 'cuz I'd heard nothing but good things about the frame mounted fairing and since I ride an Ultra I had an idea of what to expect with ride characteristics. It seemed to me that the windshield was just a little too short on this bike, I did get a lot of turbulence right in my face and at 6 feet tall I would imagine anyone taller would too although I may be spoiled by the lack of same on the Ultra. One thing I loved though, as was the case with the CVO Ultra I rode in Laconia was the ABS brakes. These things WORK! I hope never to be in the position to need them but it's nice to know that you can CRANK on the front brake lever as hard as you can and that front tire is just not going to lock up. Other than that the Road Glide was a nice ride, I would say that comparing it to the Ultra would be like apples and oranges. Had a fun day overall and I know I'm still very happy with my Ultra so I won't be trading it in anytime soon (if ever). I would encourage everyone to go to one of the demo rides, it's fun (they fed us and everyone got a gift) and it's FREE! One last note, every bike I rode, it was so easy finding neutral it was almost automatic and while the fifth gear noise is still present it is way less obvious than on the '07's.
