When you put that amount of miles on, your butt is going to feel it regardless of how comfortable a bike or seat you have. Plan a few more rest stops during the day. When ever I take multiple day trips, the second day is always the most uncomfortable.&nbsp\\;

get an Air Hawk seat cushion.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; when the ol butt starts to bleed the color wont be as important!!! besides you can take it off and throw it in the bags while yur stopped.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; those softtail bikes are sure Great Lookin&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;machines, &nbsp\\;\\\\\\;but they aint long mile riders!!
&nbsp\\;
Gets my vote, and trust me, I know what a SORE **** feels like. &nbsp\\;And throwing it in the bags is good, too. (Cept I ain't gots them, either) I always&nbsp\\;felt it was cheating to use one, but when I see 30 yr olds showing up in Sturgis with 2 baggers on a trailer, that feeling goes away REAL qwik.
Hardtail, hard a$$, and hard head, I jus' keep on pounding. OKAY, okay, it is more like cringing, than pounding. &nbsp\\;
Also, have you tried a sheepskin cover? They work pretty good also.

I've found that my choice of garments is critical. Levi 501's and whitey tighties are a no-go for anything long duration. The seams just kill after a couple hours.

I wear some Wrangler loose fit carpenter jeans, along with Haines athletic undies, the kind that fit from the waist to about mid thigh with no seams in the back and a nice pocket for the jewels. They're thick and absorbant, plus with the soft pocket seams in the Wranglers, I'm comfortable for an all day ride....in Texas 100+ humid heat and skin blistering sunshine.

I also stop about every hour to hour/half to smoke a cig, drink water and walk around.

This works for me and my 300-350 mile day trips....I have yet to try a big cross country like you're doing though!

Since you have a evo, there are many comfy seat around. The stock Softail Custom seat is the most comfy I have found even more comfy than my old bagger seat (sorry baggers guys it just is) the best comfy and back support is the Loggerhead, tough to find but they are out there. They are black so you would have to have it recovered. Cheaper to get black bags to match. Keep the brown set for short rides. The stock Softail seat I have ridden 600+ back to back days no butt pain.

I must be the wierd exception...still ridin with my stock Softail Deluxe seat...and it's the most comfortable thing I've ever ridden.&nbsp\\;Put the gel pad in the saddlebag for a day, and see if just the stock seat does ya better. Or...one thing I mighta overlooked...I might have more "built-in" paddin than most.

+1 on the sheepskin sheet.....The sheepskin will be the quick fix that is the least expensive. My Corbin Gunslinger seat &nbsp\\;is like sitting in a lounge chair. The sheepskin seems to work best when it's very hot out. Also, I agree on the hwy. pegs. Gotta be able to stretch while riding.

B.S.! to all the anti softtail guys out there, my butt and back both perfer the ride of my Fat Boy over any other model of H.D. currently on the market. (And I havent even added the air ride yet!)

Seams in briefs can get to feel like rocks in your pants after a few hundred miles.

A Sheepskin Buttpad can help. So can going commando.

Never had a problem with the stock seat on my 03 Heritage or the 06 Ultra. Made several 6000 mile plus trips with both. Longest day was 1158 miles.

Wanted to add one more thought. Spandex type undies instead of cotton. Target carries some spandex type undies. It's in the mens section. It's very sheer and slick. That section of undies is....uhumm...rather..."Stylish" so grab a pack and go...or else you might get winked at [sm=escape.gif][sm=escape.gif][sm=escape.gif][sm=escape.gif]&nbsp\\;
