Hi Everybody, and a great big Hellloooo from the UK.
 \\;
Looking for advice on the note of my engine. It's an 06 Sportster 883 xl, with just over 2.5 k on it, only 800ml when I bought it. \\;
I'm new to Harleys and was pleased with the note of the engine from the start, even though it did rattle and knock a bit. But, on the last couple of rides, the note has changed dramatically, and now when idling you can barely hear the exhaust for all the rattling from the top end of the motor, this concerns me greatly.
 \\;
Has anyone any knowledge of what could be up? I wont be riding it till I get it to a Harley doctor.
 \\;
Any help appreciated from across the pond \\;
 \\;
Cheers

Cheer guys,

Have checked oil, both hot and cold, no probs, half way on the stick cold, above top mark when hot.
Not sure about the viscocity of the oil, although this being the UK, they may have put 10/40 in, but it was serviced by a HD dealer in january 08, 800miles on the clock, so I assume they've used decent oil of the correct type.
You mught be onto something there tho', the temperature over here has risen recently to a high of abou 24c, dont laugh, this is England, so the oil might be too thick.

Change your brand of gasoline to a better premium. That could be detonation.
 \\;\\\\\\; Ditto that. \\;\\\\\\; Good possibility absent any other performance issues.

Yupper..I also noticed a change (not bad rattling though) after my break in..I took a 300+ mile highway run and the engine noise definetely changed..Not bad, but changed.

They don't have gasoline in the UK. They have petrol. Maybe he accidently got a left-hand drive bike.

OK, I'm used to picking on Brits, because I have so many English relatives. I apologize.

Could it be a cracked exhaust ?
