I currently own a 2007 Softail Deluxe, but I'm considering trading for a Street or Road Glide. I have never ridden a touring model and unfortunately don't have anywhere close enough to rent one. Would there be a really noticeable difference in comfort, etc. switching from the softail to one of these models? I don't do a lot of long rides, generally 2 to 3 hours but an occasional 5 or 6 hour ride. Also how different is a fairing compared to just a windshield? I seem to get a lot of turbulence with my windshield. Is a fairing any better in that respect?
yes to all, comfort, fairing etc..
I am right now buying a Used Ultra, I am keeping my custom Softail as well..
Have severe arthritus, fibre milagia, etc... \\;Face it,, OLD..
Gonna do the Ultra thing for long hauls now..
 \\;
Yeah, all those good things, plus few peeps make fun of baggers anymore.
Other advantages... you will attract a wider range of wimmin, or is that "wider wimmin"? You will \\;be better able to hear the 5th gear whine. \\;And, you will start voting more conservatively. \\;
I had an Electraglide\\; for me my Superglide is MUCH better for the kind of casual riding that you are talking about, which is what I do. I guess it is similar to your Softail, but I havent ridden one. Its around 150 lb lighter than the EG, a little lower, and much easier to live with poking around, but still comfortable on the big roads at 80mph or whatever. The only advantage, for me, was the EG has the best passenger seat in bike-dom, but our Sundowner seat is very good.
I went from a V-Rod (and the occasional trip on my Dad's Fat Boy) to an '08 Street Glide and I couldn't be happier. I cleaned up his Fat Boy for him this past weekend and took it for a short ride. I love the way it feels and rides but I couldn't live with it with the milage I put on a bike now. My FLHX is far and beyond a better long range rider. If all I did was "bar hopping" I would probably be happy with a softail.
